RED PINE COUNTY PRISON DEC 20 9:03 PM _____________________________________________ "Mr. Myers." The psychologist, a tall, dark-haired man, sat down on the other side of the table and placed a stack of papers on the table in front of him. "Doctor." I greeted him, unsure if I was supposed to be formal or not, I was wearing my prison jump-suit and chained to the table like I was going to do anything. I was innocent. He had to believe that I was innocent. If he knew why I did what I did... he would understand that it wasn't my fault. "You understand why you're here don't you Mr. Myers?" The man asked, his voice carefully neutral. Unreadable. "I do." I said, attempting to mimic his calm, Unreadable demeanor. "Good." He said, "Then you understand that there is no point lying to me. We already know what you did. I just want to know... why?" "I'm innocent!" I cried, eyes wide, I know I looked insane, but after what had happened... I couldn't bring myself to care, "I-It's not what you think!" I fought against the chains holding me in place, pleading for the Doctor to listen to me. "Please sir! Just... Just listen to me!" The doctor didn't flinch, his demeanor unreadable. "Mr. Myers." He said, his voice was calm and measured, "I am not here to be your enemy. I'm here to understand. You murdered four young children. I want to know why." I swallowed. Can I trust him? He was my only shot. I knew he'd listen to me won't he? But my story is crazy! He'd never believe me. Yet he was my only shot. So, I took a slow deep breath and leaned forward, resting my elbows on the table and interlocking my fingers as I looked the doctor right in the eyes. "I'm going to tell you... a story." I said, my voice was surprisingly even. "It's going to sound... crazy. Unreal. Disconnected. But the more you listen, the more it'll start making sense. And I promise with everything..." I felt tears spring in my eyes and I swallowed them down, "Everything I am... that I am telling you the truth." The doctor strengthened and leaned forward, face still unreadable, but his pasture was stiff, speaking volumes about his true, hidden emotions. "I'm listening." Was all he said. So I told him.
