Jerund are a specialized Jewelian unit most easily recognized by their stout, broad, and somewhat rounded, like a hamster lacking any fur or whiskers. Their heads are covered in yellow, reflective skin, marked by shallow dents and irregular impressions that suggest repeated impact or long-term wear. Their faces are set in a permanent poker-like expression, with features that appear jittery and inept. The lines do not fully align, and expressions never quite settle, creating a subtle discomfort for those who look at them too long. Despite this, Jerund rarely change their expression at all. Jerund serve within the Jewelian military, operating as armed enforcers and defenders of Stonespace. They are known for their stoicism, though not in a noble or dramatic sense—rather, it is flat, monotonous, and emotionally distant. Their voices, when they speak, lack inflection, and their movements are precise but restrained. It is widely understood that Jerund have endured severe and unsettling experiences during their service. However, they refuse to discuss these events under any circumstances. Questions about their past are typically met with silence or a brief, dismissive response before they return to their duties. Unlike Jinglers, Jerund are not socially integrated. They are respected, tolerated, and quietly avoided. Their presence is associated with order, conflict, and consequences—necessary, but unwelcome reminders that Stonespace is not entirely peaceful.
