Merry Christmas to everyone who celebrates! Some people may notice the spider I'm holding in the image. It's something I drew due to a favourite Christmas story of mine from when I was little. A lot of the details have grown fuzzy over time, but here's what I remember of it (with some help from wikipedia): Once upon a time, a poor widow lived in a small hut with her two children. One fortunate summer's day, a pinecone fell on the earthen floor of the hut and took root there. The widow and her children took care of the tree—if they helped it to grow, perhaps they might actually have a Christmas tree that year. The tree grew, but when it was finally Christmas Eve, they didn't have enough money to afford to decorate it. The children went to bed disappointed. That night, a spider found its way into their bare Christmas tree and began to weave webs between the branches. Santa came to deliver presents to the family to find the tree covered in nothing but cobwebs, and he took pity on the poor maiden and her children, turning the cobwebs to silver and gold. Early the next morning, the family woke to find now-shimmering tree, and were overjoyed. From then on, they never lived in poverty again. Because of this story, my family has a small glass spider (technically it's made of plastic but it's supposed to resemble glass) that we nestle in the branches of our Christmas tree. It's one of my favourite stories because it brings back a lot of good childhood memories, and I figured I'd share it.
