Chapter Four Emberpaw looked at the full moon over the island. She sighed as she heard the leaders continue to squabble over a tiny stretch of territory between WindClan and ThunderClan. Emberpaw remembered what Acornstar had told her. “You didn’t kill Streaklight, but you are going to be kept an eye on. Your training shall go on for six more moons under Mapleleaf, and you shall do apprentice duties for two moons.” Now, Acornstar was telling the gathering. “Cats of the Clans, we have had a death. Streaklight fell to her death from a tree in a squirrel hunt gone wrong. We mourn her.” Emberpaw sighed. Two more moons of apprentice duty. “Why are you looking so grim?” Emberpaw spun around and faced a dark-gray WindClan apprentice with dark blue eyes. “It’s nothing.” She hissed. “Oh. By the way, I’m Stormpaw. Of WindClan.” The gray tom meowed. “I’m Emberpaw.” Stormpaw looked at Emberpaw. “Named because of your pelt?” Emberpaw nodded impatiently. “Yes.” She had no time for this sort of nonsense. Anyways, she the pain of Streaklight’s death was still raw. “Oh.” Stormpaw said, then looked at her again. “What makes you so sad?” Emberpaw turned to him. “Streaklight. Her death was my fault. I didn’t stop her from going onto a dead branch… and… and… it broke, and she fell to her death.” Stormpaw looked puzzled. “That makes no sense. She’s a more experienced warrior than an apprentice, she should know better.” Before Emberpaw could respond, she heard a yowling from the Great tree. “ShadowClan never killed one of your warriors!” It was Cobrastar, a black and white striped tom. “I think they did!” Echostar announced. All of a sudden, there was a roar of thunder. “StarClan has ended this gathering!” It was Tuftstar. “Well, I guess I have to go.” Stormpaw mewed sadly. Then he left, along with Tuftstar and the other warriors. Emberpaw watched him leave. She sighed. Other from a few pitying cats, Stormpaw was the only cat who was nice to her. My loyalty belongs to ThunderClan, and ThunderClan alone. But did she really believe that?
