°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*Chapter 19-Everything Has A Purpose°❀⋆.ೃ࿔*:・ I wake slowly, eyes still closed, listening. There’s quiet movement around me—soft footsteps on packed dirt, low voices murmuring so they don’t wake anyone still asleep. It’s early. I can tell by the dim light filtering in through the open sides of the stable, pale and cool rather than warm and bright. A few people snicker quietly nearby. Then I notice the steady sound of breathing—close. Very close. I open my eyes just a little and realize I’m still in the same position as last night, my head resting on Kael’s shoulder. He’s leaned slightly into me as well, still half-asleep, his breathing slow and even. A couple of the people passing by glance over at us, amused—probably because we somehow managed to fall asleep on the floor right next to the beds we paid for. I let out a soft yawn. That’s when Kael stirs. He shifts slightly, blinking as he wakes, then lifts his head from mine as I sit up too. “Good mornin’,” he says, stretching his arms above his head. “Good morning,” I reply, my voice still thick with sleep. I stand up carefully, my body stiff and sore from staying in the same position all night. My legs protest as I straighten, and I roll my shoulders a little to work out the tension. That’s when the smell hits me. Warm, rich, unmistakable. Breakfast. Kael and I make our way outside toward the fire pit, where a small crowd has already gathered. Ember spots us from behind the counter and gives a friendly wave. Near the fire, a man stirs a large pot, steam rising into the crisp morning air. “What is it that smells so good?” I ask, stepping closer. “Eggs and bacon,” the man replies with a grin. “Went huntin’ early—caught a boar. Nothin’ better than a hot meal at sunrise.” He laughs as he scoops a generous portion into a wooden bowl and hands it to me. “Here you go.” “Thank you,” I say, smiling. Kael gets a bowl as well, and I find a stool near the fire to sit on. It’s still a little damp from yesterday’s rain, but the warmth from the flames makes up for it. I take a bite, and the food is rich and filling—the eggs fluffy, the meat smoky and perfectly cooked. I eat slowly, watching the sky. The storm is gone. The morning is clear and bright, sunlight stretching over the land. Birds sing from nearby trees, their calls light and cheerful, like they’re celebrating the calm. Footsteps approach behind me. Ember steps up beside Kael and rests a hand on his shoulder. “Got a task for you, if you’re up for it.” Kael looks over. “Yeah? What’s that?” “Our materials runner just arrived,” Ember says. “Was hoping you could help with storing and opening some crates.” “Yeah, I can help with that,” Kael replies easily. “Oh—and our handyman left,” Ember adds with a chuckle. “Only worked here three days.” “Rob?” Kael laughs. “You’re jokin’.” “Afraid not.” Kael shakes his head, still smiling. “Well, if you need a hand fixin’ anything, just holler.” He stands and sets his bowl aside, then looks over at me. “I’ll be helpin’ out for a bit. You rest up, yeah?” I nod. “I’ll be around.” I watch as Kael and Ember walk off together before standing myself. As I do, a woman approaches me, holding a small bag. “Hello,” she says warmly. “I noticed you don’t have much, and I don’t need this anymore.” She offers it to me. The bag is smaller than my main one—just big enough to carry essentials—but sturdy and well-made. “Oh—are you sure?” I ask, not wanting her to feel obligated. “Of course,” she says with a bright smile. “I’d love for it to still be useful.” “Wow… thank you,” I say, taking it. The bag is made of soft cotton, dyed a gentle earth tone. The seams are carefully stitched, a little decorative pattern running along the edges. Simple, but cute—and practical. I head back inside, planning to explore the area for a bit. I gather my dirty clothes, a clean outfit, the thick cloth I used last night, and a bit of string I’d found earlier, stuffing them neatly into my new bag. I grab my bow and arrows too, just in case. Back outside, I walk toward the river beside the stable. The water branches off into smaller streams and shallow ponds, sunlight dancing on the surface. Across the river, a narrow stream leads into a lightly forested area—quiet and secluded. There’s a bridge nearby. It’s a bit of a walk, but I’ve got time. I swing the bag onto my back and start toward it. The ground beneath my boots is firm but slightly muddy, still holding onto the memory of yesterday’s rain. The air smells fresh—wet earth, grass, and river water all mixed together. The bridge is made of thick logs bound tightly with rope. It creaks softly as I step onto it, the wood worn smooth by years of travelers. There isn’t much of a railing, just enough to guide you across. I move carefully, glancing down at the water flowing steadily beneath me.
On the other side, I turn left and step into the trees. The sound of the stream grows louder as I push through low branches and soft undergrowth. Leaves brush against my sleeves, and the ground becomes cooler and shaded. I reach the stream and spot a smooth, flat rock beside it. I set my bag and bow down, then look for two trees close together. Finding a good pair, I take the string from my bag and tie it between their branches, pulling it tight. Then I kneel and begin scanning the ground. I’m looking for a specific plant—one that only grows in certain parts of Hyrule. My mother taught me how to find it. She taught me so many things about plants: which healed, which harmed, and which could be used for something else entirely. “Everything has a purpose,” she used to say. Only now do I realize how much she was preparing me for life. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter 1 - The Arrangement https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1225295098/ Chapter 2 - The Predicament https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1226958668 Chapter 3 - The Edge of Hateno https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1226962645/ Chapter 4 - The Stable Boy https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1226963426 Chapter 5 - Where Lanturns Burn Bright https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1227559291 Chapter 6 - Lanternlight Celebration https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1245748317 Chapter 7 - Nightfall at the Stable https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1245878960 Chapter 8 - The Day Awaits https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1246140960 Chapter 9 - The Road Begins https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1246184679 Chapter 10 - Grey Clouds Ahead https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1246185441 Chapter 11 - Roadside Camp https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1246185752 Chapter 12 - A Firelit Evening https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1246186269 Chapter 13 - He Showed Me The Stars https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1246186598 Chapter 14 - Goodnight, Stars https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1253162239 Chapter 15 - A Rained-Kissed Journey https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1253411128 Chapter 16 - Shelter By The River https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1253411326 Chapter 17 - Warmth in the Rain https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1258143031 Chapter 18 - The Space Between Us https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1258148062 Chapter 19 - Everything Has A Purpose https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1259369756
