art by me music by me, made in museScore key - g maj, c maj, a min, c maj, e min, d maj in that order tempo - all over the place genuinely i couldn't tell you time signature - alternates 4/4 and 3/4 songs featured: 1. all i want for christmas is you 2. up on the housetop 3. good king wenceslas 4. silent night 5. carol of the bells 6. hark! the herald angels sing 7. angels we have heard on high 8. 12 days of christmas 9. we wish you a merry christmas 9.5. my country tis of thee (god save the king) 10. god rest ye merry gentlemen 11. chanukah oh chanukah 12. joy to the world 13. deck the halls with boughs of holly 14. jingle bells 15. dreidel song so this was actually a bit of a challenge! i knew how it was going to begin but after that it was mostly just shambling through each song. i liked how it turned out though! i'll go through each section and explain my thought process if you want to read all that (song number(s) / tempo / key signature) (#1-3 / 130, 160, 102 bpm / g maj) i was originally going to open with wenceslas, but i realized it was more of a slow song. so i put up on the housetop there first and added a bit of an intro segment with it since the transition between it and mariah carey wasn't working that well. if you listen closely during housetop and wenceslas you'll hear a bit of the other played on the piano. this was a late detail but one i really like, i think it makes the song a little fuller! shame that the audio quality kinda erased it... (#4-5 / 102, 102-150 bpm / c maj, a min) silent night wasn't that difficult but the rhythms were tedious. i did do something with the rhythms, though! the accompaniment parts play only quarter notes while the main melody gets all the more complex things. i do like the transition between it and wenceslas though. i also like the transition between silent and carol of the bells, the latter also turned out well even if i was a little heavy on the drums looking back... fun fact: i made a holiday medley like 2 years ago that i never finished, this part is taken almost directly from it since i really liked it before and there's no need to reinvent the wheel. ( / 113 bpm / c maj) this is what i like to call the lightning round! a lot of this section was just putting songs in so i could get to 15 and hopefully it doesn't show. these all gave me no trouble except 12 days, i couldn't get the harmonies right. i ended up making the voices have different rhythms, and it all worked out! fun fact: hark! the herald angels sing wasn't originally in this section, it was after joy to the world. it just wasn't working though, so i copy-pasted it to right after carol and i think it worked out! (.5 / 154 bpm / c maj) we wish you a merry christmas turned out the best i think, i really like the rhythms the accompaniment has though! i also added my country tis of thee because i thought it would be funny. the transition to the second minor section gave me trouble too but once i realized i should alternate between the G7 and the Bmaj chords it all worked out! ( / 154-39, 156 bpm / e min) this section is my favorite!! the slow opening really brings out its speed, and the fast section's marching bassline (is that what it's called?) really helps bring it all together! the melody is a little high, but i couldn't be bothered to use the piano for this one and the viola doesn't go that low so ehh. the drums were also surprisingly varied in this part, which is cool. the pizzicato section turned out really well too, with all the overlapping melodies. ( / 156 bpm / d maj) if you thought i underused the piano in this song, you'd be right! but also this section is full of it. for some reason, arranging for piano was a lot more difficult than it should be. that made this section a lot more tedious but i powered through. ( / 156 bpm / d maj) after that section of all piano, we had to have an all strings section to balance it out! (this is a lie. i just did not want to write any more piano parts.) this section had nothing really interesting happen honestly so let's just get to the finale ( / 100, 136, 150 bpm / d maj) making jingle bells start slow was a weird decision but one i think worked out with the viola part. originally dreidel and jingle were supposed to go back and forth for much longer but it didn't work so just cut to the part they overlapped. this part is a little undercooked and doesn't really sound like the final songs but that's to be expected since i did make it on dec 24 at like 5 pm (ending / 120 bpm / d maj) i love this outro style so much, so i had to use it here! fun fact: the starting part was also taken from the old christmas medley, where it opened the whole thing! i think it works well as the beginning to the ending too though. the ending four measures are very good imo i like it then its over. if you read all that you're peak merry christmas!! happy holidays! happy new year :D
