HiiihihIhiHiHi so Uh Art process! I’d import the time lapse but my iPad does not have enough storage :’] Batfam!! I posted this in my art summary but I wanted to dedicate a project solely to this piece that took 17 hours and 47 mins ahaha.. 1) finished result! Nightwing/Richard Grayson (st will mute me if I say the name he goes by even though It’s JUST A NAME ToT) Jason Todd (Redhood haha), Tim Drake (Red Robin), Stephanie Brown (Spoiler), Duke Thomas (Signal), Damian Wayne (Robin), Cassandra Cain (Orphan), Barbara Gordon (Oracle) !! :D 2) I’ve already had a lot of reflection and notes in my summary project so idk if imma say everything here but yeah Babs was the first one I drew.. I struggled with the wheel chair :’00 3) Damiannnnn and a lil bit of Alfred the cat! 4) cat has been sufficiently doodled, Tim coming together! 5) yeah lol I’ve given up sketching the facial features ig haha Cass and a floating Steph head appeared! 6)oh looks like I wasn’t happy with Steph. 7) oh there she has a body yayY!, and she’s blueee 8) oh turns out I flipped her back around :0 and Dukes there Yippeeeeee (and a bit of Richard) 9) RICHARD .. he’s my favorite but also the fact I’m calling him “Richard” is so funny to me like okay hi Mr. Waterson ToT 10) JasonmnnNn 11) oh a face! Kinda unsettling but Alr whatever I wanna do ig 12) Oo Jason’s face is p cool. Look how edgy he is. 13) oh those are rough, buddies. Except Duke’s his is cool. Tim’s is bleh but Steph’s just looks like a diff style on like a Pin base or smth. Cass’ is cool but j a diff vibe than everyone else. 14) Jason lineartt haha.. already like 4 hours into the piece ig!, it’s partly taking like 2x as long bc I split screened with Yt and although I usually do that ig I was watching a lot more Yt! 15) Richard lineart almost finished yayyyy 16) oh Tim that’s rough…. ToT 17) Steph is cute lol… i think you can tell I don’t always follow the sketch :’0 18) I actually like Duke’s a lot— I think I captured the ethnic features well! :] Cass’ is also v cute !! 19) BABSSSSSSSSS I LOVE BABS. but this line work? Not sm </3 20) Dami!, <333 such a silly lil bean. 21) flat gray base no idea why this has so many separate screenshots .. 22) oh ok phew a big jump! Tried to separate values based on closeness to the camera with darker being closer + lighter being farther with the characters in the middles of the rows having a bit variation to create just a bit easier contrast when looking at these bases. 23) imported a picture of Richard haha don’t question how many refs I had to screenshot and how many pictures I had of WFA while doing this piece hahaha 24) I moved his face out of the way and oh I think I tried a diff expression it’s lowk ugly 25) ok colored him.. not the best. 26) oh ok his hair is a lighter color and I started coloring Jason that’s good! I mentioned this in the art summary but I regre putting Duke in front of Jason bc his skin color is too similar to Jason’s jacketttttt- if I put Steph out of the middle where Duke is, that would also create contrast with Tim and Steph bc his dark skin would separate them. I only put Steph next to Tim bc … I ship them. .. even though they broke up. Well idk I don’t ship them but I thought it would’ve been a cool nod towards that lol. 27) Tim’s colored and mouth is fixed.Idk why I didn’t fix his face yet.. also haha Steph and Tim next to each other in the ref 28) more refs. And more coloring progress gng. This is my least fav part of the art process. Aaaa 29) more CoLOriNG !!! :’D BabsBabsBabs. And Richard. I don’t mind him with Starfire cuz I grew up with Teen Titans Go but like this is Batfam not Teen Titans so both are cool ig I changed Babs’ mouth yeee aND CASSS her skin is too loght here aaaA glad I changed it later <33 30) Dukeeeeee + Babs are colored.. as you can see I struggled sm with separating the skin + jacket values ToT it’s not good here lol! 31) colored Damian and started coloring Alfred :> Diff Cass skin color here as well it’s too saturated :’0 32) yayyy everyone is colored!, FINALLY A GOOD CASS SKIN COLOR 33) shading Richarddddd not done yettt hahahaha it’s an overlay layer 100% opacity with a dark blue to get started! 34) 48% opacity normal layer with a deep red to add subsurface scattering to the overlay layer! I did this for all the characters :] 35) overlay on Jason Todd 36) Jason’s leather jackett 37)more on Jason and started Tim 38) more on Tim! Also the normal layer is also on Jason now 39) Oo Tim I like your shading lmbo 40) Stephhh these descriptions are kinda boring but these pictures here are to really get a good idea on the shading process but idk really how to explain it! So hopefully y’all are visual learners whshsjskak 41) Duke 42) Dami and literally j started on Cass! Lol I also put all the lineart layers on soft light blend mode so the line art was colored!
Except the faces I wanted good definition on the features since I wanted to give everyone distinct eyes— it was kind of hard for those making an expression, like Richard looking up but he has thin eyes indicating being older (since they’re smaller) but aren’t necessarily just shrank to have a consistent style. Same with Jason but his are more angled and sharp bc he’s edgier (personality wise but shown through shape language!) Babs eyes are also small bc she’s Richard’s age but she has to be in the bottom row bc she’s in a wheel chair with the young-ins. (Help why did I say that-) also thicker eye lashes to show deeper command of make up ig ?? Shows more grown up haha. Tim, Steph, and Duke all have similar sized eyes due to being similar in age! Cass and Steph have thick eyelashes. Also this isn’t j limited to the eyes, but also the eyebrows. Character design lol. Look at Dami’s, his are ‘weird’ but it’s part of his character! Duke’s are thick as a way to show his race! Which is something everyone should be proud of, and I tried to represent that. Jason and Richard have thicker eyebrows since it implies more masculinity due to rectangles giving the impression of ‘strength’, a result of being older and stronger, as a result, the girls have thinner eyebrows since they’re girls and have less muscle building hormones ig idk how to explain. 43) when I changed colors to be slightly lighter and darker it’s bc I have a layer which is all colored gray on saturation blend mode which makes the painting solely black and white and helps me check values! I totally recommend doing it— for shading though soft vs hard edges are imperative! Look at Cass’ shirt.. on the fold where her bosom ithe bottom half is smudged due to being on a more rounded surface, and the top one has no change (hard edge) showing an abrupt change in level. Does this make sense? 44) oh yeah lol here’s me checking the values y’all HAVE NO IDEA HIW HARD IT WAS FOR ME TO SCREENSHOT THIS BC IN LIKE A 15 MINUTE VIDEO THIS SCREEN WAS 18 MILLISECONDS LONG AND MY FONGER WOULD SHIFT WHEN I SCREENSHOT IT CAUSING IT TO BE A DIFF PART OF THE TIME LAPSE. anyways mistakes: Damian’s hair is legit the same color as Tim’s shirt augh.l. Think I fixed it later on it’s highlights but I noticed this. Also Duke’s skin and Jason’s jacket. 45) in color again :sparkle’: 46) shading Babs now ayyyy 47) overlay layer over everyoneee 48) add layer and noise! This is the fun stuff. Also shading/rendering that’s also fun :] 49) cool background! I’m the luminance section I love the nebula brush yayyy also Babs looks so good what the heck 50) ok a small attempt to fix Damian’s hair against Tim’s shirt but alas highlights for everyone but idk if you can see ToT 51) oh ig i covered up a bit of my mistake that was t intentional I promise!
