Where I talk about what projects I plan to work on this year, what projects I failed to work on last year, and why I failed to work on those projects. ░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░ ╰──╮I suppose before I get into the actual content, I should wish you a happy new year, as is common practice. So, happy new year! How you doing? Anyways, I'll just go in chronological order of how I listed everything. ░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░ ╰──╮Currently, I've got a lot of ideas for projects that I've collected over the last 3 years, which is about as long as I've been doing this silly new year series. For one thing, I've had "Seishin's Game Remastered" on the backburner for a while. Even though I've talked about it a lot, I've never gone into much detail, and that's because basically for as long as it's existed, it's just been concepts and me saying "Wow, that would be cool to make." I've not once ever written out the full story for the game, and have had no plan whenever I've sat down to work on it. It was also very daunting to write a story with several endings depending on what you choose, and to try to get a good system for the text storage going. I'd have to do some major rethinking of the project to go forward from where I am. I do not think I was ready to work on this game. ░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░ ╰──╮Another game that mysteriously disappeared from my profile was "Adam Sandler Breaking Into Your House," which actually had a shared version Halloween of 2024 and a Christmas update in the following months. After the Christmas season was well over though, in February, I unshared the project because I wanted to untheme it. I then forgot to untheme it for several months. Eventually, I got around to it, but then started working on some updates for the game so it could have an impactful comeback. So far, many good updates have been made, but the game is still in an unfinished state, and is not quite working. I was also planning on adding a new mode, which started to prove tricky to code. This game isn't a huge priority due to its trashposty nature, and is just not the most important thing for my profile. I'll possibly get the Classic game mode that we all know and love running and share that early, though. I've got some progress to work from there, due to the quality of this game not mattering much, so long as it works. ░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░ ╰──╮There's also a much more recent game idea I've had, and which I've not shared anything about besides one scrapped music track (found on my Scratch profile) because I knew there wasn't enough made yet to share. While I'm early into the project, I thought I should take a step back from working on it while I still could, because I started clearly recognizing that I was not planning development enough. Barely anything is made for this game, as I need to write the story, just like with "Seishin's Game Remastered." I don't want to spoil too much about this game right now, as it's only an idea right now! The working title right now, though, is "4768 REDHOT ROAD." Don't ask, it's some profile lore that would get me going on a tangent. ░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░ ╰──╮The final project that's been bouncing around in my head for a couple of years is, who could forget it, the "Untitled Black and White RPG." As you can clearly tell by the name, a ton of work was done on this game. That's what I would say if I was like, a complete and total liar or something idk. This game was gotten into about the game place as "4768 REDHOT ROAD," and was based entirely off the notion of making a game with a cool paper-like art style that I'd recently experimented drawing characters with. It was planned to be a pretty linear mystery/horror RPG, and honestly, the basic idea I had for the story was pretty neat, in my opinion. It's just that I never outlined the entire story or got anywhere more detailed than that. It's just been a little concept in my brain for over 2 years now that I think would be pretty cool, as most of my other ideas go. ░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░ ╰──╮So basically, I did nothing important all year again, right? I didn't even introduce my main characters like I said I would! Well, for most of the year, I've been working on other stuff. I've started taking courses in music production and worldbuilding, and have generally been really caught up in school and other things. Whenever I do work on something, I've either not gotten much meaningful progress done, or it was for my own use, like documents to keep my worldbuilding lore in. I've also gotten really into character design, and have made many new characters throughout the year, who I can't really show as of right now, since that would be...spoilers.....(continued below)
(continued) I've also gradually tried to improve the quality of my music, as always. Every year I get a little better! Digital music production is a path I'd like to look into career options for, and as I get further through high school, it's reassuring to know that I have a definite primary interest and talent. ░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░ ╰──╮I've wanted to make a game for so long though, as an ultimate expression of my creativity, as it requires many different types of media. For this exact reason, though, it requires a lot of planning, which I've never thought enough about to do properly. This next year, I'll probably be putting all of my projects but one or two on hold, to realistically limit myself. I'm planning for my primary project to be the Black and White RPG, which might seem strange. After all, I barely even have concepts for that, right? Well, yeah. But that's how all these projects are currently. So, I've decided to pick the project that interests me the most, as I like the art style and story ideas I had, and the one that seems the easiest to make. After all, it wouldn't be some big choose your own adventure "your choices matter" Toby Fox deal. It would be (hopefully) a relatively simple RPG that would have a single script for the story and definite events that would play out. Also, I like the vibes of it, okay- ░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░ ╰──╮So that's it. Thanks for reading my long ramblings, and hopefully I'll see decent progress on my main project by the next new year! Just keep in mind that it ain't gonna be finished then. Essentially, I'll be starting from scratch on this game as of 2026. Also, I'm kinda lazy so I don't think I'm making any game in a year. I'll try to be determined, though. I'm gonna write the story FIRST this time! Before I even start coding, even! I know, that doesn't sound like me at all, but after taking 3 years to realize it, I finally discovered that you need to have the story at least OUTLINED before you touch anything else. Now, I'm getting off track again. Wish me luck on actually being productive (and even getting a job in the next year? aagh), and have a happy new year! Seeya next time! ░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░ -@komicguy35 ✎ ░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░ All music and characters by @komicguy35.
