Basically, when Quinn met Darvarus, he did not trust him and thought her was a demon (His beliefs said that scaled creatures were demons). Darvarus convinced him that he was not a demon and offered a potion to Quinn claiming that it will unlock his true powers, though Quinn didn't know that it actually didn't do that. (Quinn can control water elements). Being the young, naive feline he was, he took his offer and drank the potion, which actually turned out to be a mind-controlling potion.
