(everything here in the desc) I've been doomscrolling like CRAZY over break, which has negatively affected my performance in my extracurriculars. I hate this, so I've found a few ways to reduce the amount of time I spend doomscrolling that I wanted to share: 1. Ask yourself: why are you doomscrolling? For me, it came down to these two reasons. a. Boredom/procrastination b. Social media was my only way of exposing myself to content I enjoyed If you most relate to a, think about some hobbies you've been neglecting lately, or something better you could be doing with your time. Time goes by alarmingly fast--getting that homework that's due in two weeks done rather than doomscrolling gives you more time to have fun without worrying about impending doom hanging over your head. Sometimes you just have to get up and start doing things even if you're not motivated. If you most relate to b, find a different way to expose yourself to this content that's better for your attention span or allows you to get other work done at the same time, like reading a book, listening to a podcast on that topic, or even watching a TV show. I've been getting into enhypen lately, so most of my feed was just clips of them from iland. Rather than wrecking my attention span and not getting anything done, I decided to watch the actual show while doing my homework. Obviously, you want to avoid doomscrolling if you can, but everyone can admit it's fun watching at least some of the content on your fyp, and taking a break can be nice--especially if you're getting something else done while doing it. I chose the lesser evil so that I wouldn't give up on my resolution to cut down on doomscrolling five minutes later and could get more work done. That being said, if watching long-form content is really, really, really boring (which is understandable--sometimes you just want to watch YouTube shorts), go ahead. Just be mindful of how long you scroll and what impending homework or tasks you have to do later. The shift from watching social media for four hours to thirty minutes will take time, but perseverance will be your best friend. Thanks for reading--what are some other reasons that you doomscroll?
Sorry for the sloppy tn I felt lazy :)
