so neuroticism is one of the big five traits that measures our emotional weight and while mbti doesn't measure it directly, certain types get stereotyped as leaning higher in it, such as: - infj (reasoning: "overthinkers") - infp (reasoning: "tortured poets") - intp (reasoning: "oddball") - intj (reasoning: "self-critics") its nice to note that these are types that stereotypically run high in neuroticism, not every individual of said types are neurotic as it differs from person to person :) with that being said i like to think of -a or -t types behaving like sub-types, (these are addons in mbti, specifically on 16p, basically assessing your self-confidence lvls) and this can play a big part of your neuroticism levels as well depending on your mbti, (-a is assertive, -t is for turbulent types which are higher prone to neuroticism, especially when paired with a stereotypically neurotic type), take my brother: infj-a friendly but super confident, and not at all neurotic despite his anxious overthinker stereotype. and while it's true that infj's use fe, an infj-a behaves a lot like an assertive fi user (great with boundaries, isn't a ppl pleaser, prioritizes themselves, etc) on the flip side an infp-t, due to their turbulence (-t), can act a lot more like an fe user despite being an fi dom (ppl pleasing, harmony-seeking, etc) so naturally they're going to run neurotic generally speaking, turbulent types (-t) run higher neurotic than an -a (assertive), but your core mbti functions are what truly shape it as there's a difference between neuroticism and having a low-self-esteem, though they can go hand-in-hand pretty cool right :) but honestly i think there are 2 types that don't scream neurotic like the more obviously known ones do, yet: isfjs, youre so sweet but please dont keep continually pour yourselves empty to the point of exhaustion!! these types tend to get overlooked because their neuroticism builds over time from the tendency of taking the responsibility and needs of others before themselves to the point of burnout unfortunately. very common for fe or fe-like users, please take care of yourselves and entps, these types are so fascinatingly complicated and honestly the reason why i wanted to make this in the first place lol for entps: whether it's an entp-a or an entp-t i think this is the occasional occurrence in mbti where the subtype doesn't affect it much, and the reason for that i believe to be is imposter syndrome: to be forward with it, statistically entps tend to score a lot lower on neuroticism assessments, and yet ironically lots of entps have talked about how empty/unstable they feel inside in a way that doesnt show on surface-level tests because they don't have "real" opinions as they're constantly switching perspectives, and bc of this have a constant battle within themselves because of their self-identity struggles. their desire to play devil's advocate often makes them feel like they don't have true opinions or values about anything, leading to a weak ego because they dont always believe in what they're fighting for, yet, do it anyways. because of this i believe their neuroticism shows up differently on a more phenomenological level so the experience is nuanced and more existentially focused thats why i believe the isfj(?) and entp are the overlooked mbti types steeped in neuroticism, though again very nuanced and usually hidden/built up with time. yeah! not sure if anyone cares but theres that haha
