The shift in atmosphere was instantaneous. The crushing silence of the void was replaced by the smell of ozone, smoke, and wet concrete. Kaelen tumbled through the white light, hitting the ground hard. His lungs burned as they pulled in real air for the first time in what felt like forever. He scrambled to his feet, his hands shaking, expecting to see the vibrant U.A. campus he had just left. Instead, he saw a graveyard. The great glass towers of U.A. were jagged stumps of steel and rubble. The training grounds were cratered, and the sky was a permanent, sickly grey. There was no sound of students laughing only the distant, rhythmic thud of patrolling machines. "No..." Kaelen whispered, his voice cracking. "I stopped it. I took them with me." He began to run, his boots crunching over debris. He found the first sign of life near the remains of the dorms. Figures were scattered across the battlefield like broken dolls. He saw Kirishima’s hardened form partially buried under a collapsed wall; he saw Iida’s engines cold and rusted. Then, he saw a shock of green hair. "Midoriya!" Kaelen lunged forward, sliding into the dirt beside him. Izuku was barely recognizable. His costume was shredded, and he looked older haggard and scarred. His eyes flickered open, struggling to focus. When they finally landed on Kaelen, a look of pure, heartbreaking shock crossed his face. "Kai...?" Midoriya’s voice was a ghost of a sound. He reached out a trembling, scarred hand. "You’re... you’re dead. You’ve been gone for two years." "Two years?" Kaelen’s heart dropped. "Izuku, what happened? I took them to the void! I felt it!" Midoriya coughed, a pained, wet sound. "They came back... only weeks after you disappeared. They were stronger. The void changed them... and we weren't ready. The school fell. The heroes... we're all that's left." Kaelen looked up, surveying the wreckage of the place that had finally given him a home. Two years of suffering. Two years of his friends being hunted because he hadn't finished the job. A low, guttural growl started deep in his chest. The red mist of the void began to seep from his body, but it was different now. It was darker, thicker, bleeding into a pitch-black aura that crackled with a murderous intensity. The ground beneath him began to disintegrate, not into mist, but into nothingness. Suddenly, a flash of red light flickered in his mind a psychic tether. He saw them. He saw the throne of rubble they had built. Kaelen didn't say another word. He stood up, the black-and-red energy swirling around him like a storm, and vanished in a flicker of void-lightning. He reappeared atop the ruins of the Central Tower. Below him, gathered around a map of the remaining resistance shelters, was the League of Villains. Tomura Shigaraki sat at the center, his eyes glowing with a new, hollow power. Beside him stood Dabi, his blue flames licking the air; Himiko Toga, playing with a bl00d-stained knife; Twice, creating endless copies of weapons; Mr. Compress, polishing a marble; and Spinner, standing guard with a jagged blade. They all froze as the temperature in the room plummeted to sub-zero. Shigaraki looked up, his pale face twisting into a slow, horrific grin. "Look at that," Shigaraki rasped, his voice echoing in the hollow room. "The ghost finally came home to watch the end of the world." Kaelen didn't smile back. The black void flared, eclipsing the light in the room.
