Day faded into night, as street lights started lighting up all around the brightful city of Los Angeles. With the younger kids in bed, Annie Kay stood in front of the kitchen sink, washing the supper dishes while humming quietly. She cleaned a glass and laid it in the other sink, before hearing the front door opened and close. She stopped humming, while hearing approaching footsteps. Annie glanced at the kitchen window, and saw the reflection of her husband approaching her from behind. He wrapped her arms around her, pulling her close while resting his head down on her shoulder. "Long day?" Annie chuckled softly. "Yeah..." Deacon sighed into her neck. "........Everyday." He murmured. Annie reached up and laid her hand on the side of his face. "Well, you can finally relax!" She said, giving him a small kiss on his cheek. Deacon smiled against her skin, before pulling back. "Mhm....can't wait!" He said, before looking around. "Where's the kids?" Annie took her hands out of the sink water and reached for a dish towel. "Well, Sammy and Tori are gone to bed, and Matty is with Lila in her room supposedly helping her with her ....homework." She replied, drying her hands, then tossed the towel on the counter. Deacon snickered with a shake of his head. "You really think they're doing homework?" He asked, with a smirk. "Oh no, probably not...they have that goofy dynamic where they can't focus on what's important when they're together." Annie said, putting a hand on her hip before she noticed Deacon moving towards the sink. "Nope!" She said, stepping in front of him. "What?" He asked, stopping in his tracks. "Go up to the room, relax. I'll meet you up there when I'm finished!" Annie reassured him. "Are you sure? I could help--" "Yes I'm very sure, you've done enough today, now go!" Annie said, quickly gesturing him towards the stairs. "Okay, okay, I get the hint!" Deacon chuckled, as he walked up the stairs to their room. ... Finishing up, Annie went up to the room and found Deacon sitting on the bed scrolling through his phone, wearing black and gray checkered pajama pants and no shirt. He looked up and saw Annie walking over to the dresser. "That was fast!" Annie opened up the second drawer and began rummaging through her clothes. "Mhm...well I had plenty of time to get it all done since school finished today...." She turned and looked at Deacon with a small smile. He smiled back. "Well, at least I have you to keep the balance!" Annie snickered. "Come on David. You do your part too. Just when you know...you're not out saving lives!" She said, walking in the bathroom and closed the door behind her. Deacon chuckled softly. "Yeah, the man of the house!" He joked. Annie left the bathroom dressed in her pajamas, while she walked over and sat on the bed next to Deacon. "How was work?" She asked, leaning against him. Deacon turned his phone off and laid it on the nightstand besides the bed. "Oh you know, same old, same old.....How was school?" He asked, putting his arm around her. "Good. I'm almost finished. We're doing a mock trial tomorrow!" Annie replied, looking up at him. "Oh really? Look at you being optimistic and ambitious. I love it!" Deacon said with a low chuckle as he looked down and leaned in closer to Annie. Her face flushed, while she gazed up at his soft brown eyes. "Thanks...." She murmured quietly. Her smile grew slightly. "I mean every word..." Deacon trailed off, lost in her eyes before leaning in closer and kissed her on the lips. "I love you..." He murmured, once he pulled away. "Love you too..." Annie said, snuggling into his side. Deacon couldn't help but smile, as he held her close. But little did he know, that was going to be the last day he'd hold her...
