America also performed better in the Mexican-American War, earning more territories. Russia also beat the Japanese in the Russo-Japanese War, barely though due to American naval joint exercises, improved tactics, and training. Also due to stronger economic ties and trade, Russia did not sell Alaska. And with American support to Russia early in WW1, the Russians performed better, resulting in the Central Powers having a worse Treaty, and the Russian Civil War broke out in 1921, the Bolsheviks against the Romanovs. With the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, Finland, Manchuria, Korea, Estonia, and Latvia breaking away from the Russian Empire, with the Bolsheviks winning the civil war, also causing the nullification of the Russo-American Treaty but losing said territories. And due to diplomatic failure of the UN, France took the Saarland and drove a wedge between the UK and France.
