GERARD WAY IS HOT! Now that I've gotton your attention, I just wanted to yap about CDs and why I collect them (in general) If you're that interested in what I currently have, the list is in the notes and credits. Reason 1# - Streaming Services Suck (SSS for Short) Streaming Services are actually terrible. They are such a joke, especially Spotify (which makes me question why it is the most popular one of all the choices there are). My main issue with Spotify is primarily due to its low artist royalty payouts, extremely limited features when it comes to non-premium users, and the fact that the right to listen to any of the songs can be taken away at any time, even without reason, and it be completely legal. I'm sure these issues don't just apply to Spotify either, I'm sure there are definetely some issues with YT Music, Apple Music, Amazon Music, etc, as well as more issues being on those platforms, although I haven't used any of them, so I can't exacty say much for any other streaming services other than Spotify. CDs are great for the fact that the artists get paid from you buying one of their CDs. If I were to buy an album by... Tyler The Creator (I don't listen to him, this is just an example), then he would get more money from me buying his album, than me listening one of his albums in full on Spotify or something. Not only that, but with a CD, you get to actually own that music. The moment you buy an album, the ownership of the songs on it go to you, and only you. When you use a streaming service, you don't actually own it, all you have, is a license to listen to that music, which can be taken away from you at any point (as mentioned earlier). Reason 2# - It's actually cheaper than other formats CDs, compared to other formats (such as Vinyl) are cheap. To show this, I went on Amazon and recorded the price of a few albums on both Vinyl and CDs, and you'll be able to see a trend in the prices of both. (Apologies for USA readers, I'm British, it is in GDP, not American Dollars). Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park (released in 2000): CD Version - £7.99 Vinyl Version - £20.99 Nevermind by Nirvana (released in 1991): CD Version - £11.04 Vinyl Version - £27.65 American Idiot by Green Day (released in 2004): CD Version - £7.99 Vinyl Version - £25.53 If you paid attention, you could tell that on all of those albums, the CD version, was cheaper than the Vinyl version. I'm sure theres probably some albums where this would be reversed, with the Vinyl being cheaper than the CD, but even then, most main albums probably are cheaper on CD, rather than Vinyl. I only checked Amazon though, and although prices may vary on different online stores and even physical stores, most of the time, it is that the CD version is cheaper than the Vinyl version. Reason 3# - They are portable. CD's are a portable format, with Portable CD players still coming out and being manufactered in 2026, and they have been for several years. The first portable CD player came out in 1984, around 1-2 years after the CD was even invented to begin with. Thats all I really gotta say on this matter. Reason 4# - You can make your own CD's relatively cheap CDs are an extremely simple format to make, for example, if you were to add custom songs onto a CD, all you would need is a computer with the internet, a CD burner, and a blank CD. Thats all you need to make a CD with custom songs on it, whether they are your own original songs, or from other artists (or even other CDs). There are many tutorials on how to create a custom CD online, so I'm not gonna overly talk about it. Reason 5# - Better quality than other formats Despite the fact many say that Vinyl are higher quality, a CD can be higher quality. Looking at the specs, CDs are, overal, higher quality than Vinyl. The main reason for the "Vinyl > CD quality" debate is due to manufacturers purposefully compressing CD quality. "By the specs, CDs are capable of better sound quality than vinyl. Beginning roughly around 1998 or so, record companies began compressing the hell out of dynamic range on CD releases. So, basically, on anything produced in the last 20 years or so, there's a good chance the LP might actually sound better" This statement proves that overal, although it most likely isn't, CDs can be higher quality. Reason 6# - Collecting things (overal) is just fun This entire thing has sounded like a dig against all other formats besides CDs, although realistically, I don't believe it overal matters. If you enjoy collecting Vinyl, or Cassettes, or, really anything for that matter (unless its illegal or smth), then thats a great thing that can't be taken away from you. It doesn't matter if you collect coins, or anime figures, or books, or anything, if you find it fun, you find it fun, and thats all that realistically matters. ----- Thats all I rlly wanted to say, I just wanted to yap about why I enjoy collecting CDs and everything. hope u enjoyed my yap :33
