Summary: Kai works as a cook at Serene Haven, a hospital that feels both safe and strange. He’s trying to rebuild his life after trauma, finding small comforts in the kitchen and in the quiet, supportive friendship of Claire, a fellow chef. Together, they create moments of normalcy amidst the hospital’s bustle, sharing jokes, breakfast routines, and the kind of unspoken support that makes the world feel a little less heavy. But something isn’t right. Kai keeps seeing eerie red vines creeping through the halls—signs of a supernatural threat that no one else seems to notice. The fear and confusion he carries are always lurking, even on the best days. One afternoon, restless and unable to settle, Kai wanders the labyrinthine corridors. He stumbles upon a trail of those same red vines, leading him to a battered, heavily locked door. The air there is thick with the sickening smell of rot. Whatever is behind the door is dangerous, and it’s clear Kai can’t outrun the mysteries or his own feelings of unease. Even with moments of warmth and connection, the story leaves Kai—and the reader—wondering what darkness is hidden just out of sight, and whether hope and belonging can truly hold it at bay.
