It’s around 8 in the morning. I’m in my bed reading a book, when suddenly I get an email. I open it and read what it says. “Hi TacocatChic! you have been selected for the Scratch Games, a fun event hosted by scratch where you and other scratchers will use your scratch skills to complete challenges. Have fun, Scratch.” This sounds interesting, an event with other scratchers. I’m just about to go back to bed when I hear my computer fan getting louder. I look back at the screen, which seems normal. Suddenly, there is a bight flashing light and I’m yanked of my feet. It feels like I’m falling through a long tunnel of light. I shut my eyes because it’s shining so brightly. I hit cold, hard floor with a loud thud. Pain shoots through me and I open up my eyes again. I am in a small grey room with a large box in one corner. I sit up and realize I am no longer in my pajamas, but instead wearing my star sweater and jeans. On my back, I have my small purple backpack. A loud, electronic sounding voice begins to speak through a speaker on the ceiling. “Welcome scratchers to the Scratch Games! Your first challenge is to escape your room with the items provided in your box. You have one hour. Good luck!” The speaker shuts off, and the room is silent. Cautiously, I make my way over to the box and pull the lid off. When I see the items in the box, I am stunned. The items they gave us to escape with are scratch blocks. I pull out two buttons. One has a green flag, the other has a red octagon. I put “move 10 steps” underneath “when flag clicked” and push the flag button. It moves me 10 steps. It is clear that these blocks will control my code as well as the room”s. As the hour goes by, I continue to edit and tweak the code. I even try getting through the wall without code. I realize in order to move past the wall, I must first find the coordinates of the wall. I put in “change position to (100, 50), which moves me away from one wall. I keep trying coordinates until I come to touch the wall. Next, I add “move 20 steps”. I wonder how much time is left when the speaker turns on. “Attention scratchers! You have 10 minutes remaining. I know that I need to pick up my pace if I want to escape. There is no telling what will happen to me if I don’t. Anxiously, I push the green flag. Once again, I’m pulled in the direction I coded myself to go, and I close my eyes right before I hit the wall. I expect to run into it and have to start over, but instead I am thrusted very uncomfortably through the wall, and when I am through it, I fall on the ground. When I pull myself up, I see the wall behind me, and an empty white void on all the others. I walk forward, and then I notice the air kind of wiggle in front of me. I gently reach out to touch it, an realize that it is a force field, blocking me from whatever the next challenge is.
