Chapter 9: Kyle softly walked down the vast castle corridors, passing window slits in the stone walls that whispered icy air through the cracks. He finally entered the more furnished part of the castle, where Nayra was; the floor had a thin ruby carpet laid on it, with gold furnishings at the side. Kyle had been a Sheikah guard (from a very young age), but he’d usually remained outside of the castle to keep watch and train to be a proper guardian of the palace, so he’d never properly been inside, and had time to admire its regal beauty. (meanwhile) As Nayra sat on her old bed, in her childhood room- nostalgia flooded through her. She hadn’t been in this room for 2 months, which didn’t sound like a lot, but to her- it felt like an age. There were faded drawings done in crayons taped up on the wall, with little scribbles on saying things like 'Nayra, age six, with mummy and daddy', in her mother’s delicate handwriting. Tears welled in her eyes and she let the emotions overcome her. Nayra missed her parents dearly and, even though they were ok (as dragons), she still didn’t know where they were or what they were doing. 'At least,' she thought to herself, 'I still have Impa, Purah, and Kyle with me.' Suddenly, as if he’d heard her thoughts, the mahogany door swung open and there -her heart fluttered at the sight of him-was Kyle. (Kyle’s perspective) He slowly pushed open the door and, there was Nayra, sat gently upon a small bed, her dark golden hair serenely swept over her shoulder. She looked almost delicate and a bit broken, her eyes shining with tears. Kyle froze for a second, a bit unsure what to do but, all of a sudden, he had a great idea. He padded over to her and outstretched his hand ‘Care to join me, princess?’ he said with a lilting smile. ‘Join you where?’ she tentatively replied, smiling softly back. ‘You’ll see..’ Kyle replied mischievously, pulling her to her feet. ‘Fineee’ Nayra said with a gentle laugh. He then took her down the corridors and out into the courtyard, Nayra started to walk forward when Kyle abruptly let go of her warm hand and instead put it in front of her eyes, blocking her vision, ‘Ahh, Kyle,’ she giggled ‘what are you doing?’ ‘You’ll see!’ he said with a laugh. ‘Now, i’m going to lead you over here- yeah thats it andddd *he removed his hand* open them’ Nayra opened her eyes and blinked in the harsh sunlight, she looked around her and realised she was in the dirt training area that the new guards used. ‘Kyle, why are we here?’ she said with a laugh. ‘Well, we’ve been through a lot, you’ve been through a lot, especially recently, so I thought it would be good to get rid of some steam’ he replied. ‘By sword fighting?’ Nayra asked, ‘You guessed it’ Kyle said. ‘Hmmm..okay’ Nayra walked over to the racks of wooden swords and picked one out. Kyle did the same. They both walked into the middle of the arena, when Nayra paused- ‘Wait, how do we do this?’ she asked. ‘Just come at me, try to parry and guard to defend yourself but basically just go for it, i know you can do it-swordfightings in your blood’ he replied. With a shrug of the soldiers and an ‘okay!’ Nayra positioned herself into a combative stance, took a deep breath then looked Kyle dead in the eye and smirked, ‘Game on’.
