Bryant Barnes - I'd Rather Pretend Credits Goes Out To:@Rowan_Uploads_Music Lyrics: Love, guess you found a way to get through Got so used to feeling nothing at all for so long No, now all I want to do is love you But my head is holding up my heart, my heart And I've seen all the signs What if they're all lies? Will it even matter what you say? Can you make these feelings go away? Tell me, is this real to you? 'Cause I can feel my heart again You're so tempting, but I'm scared So I'd rather pretend That I don't love you like I do 'Cause I don't wanna hurt again I wanna love you, but I'm scared So I'd rather pretend I'd rather pretend I'd rather pretend, oh, oh What if I'm at a loss Hoping you'll come back to me when you're gone? There's so many ways I've seen this going wrong So many ways I've seen this fall apart 'Cause I've seen all the signs What if they're all lies? Will it even matter what you say? Can you make these feelings go away? Tell me, is this real to you? 'Cause I can feel my heart again You're so tempting, but I'm scared So I'd rather pretend That I don't love you like I do 'Cause I don't wanna hurt again I wanna love you, but I'm scared So I'd rather pretend
How I Recreated "I'd Rather Pretend" by Bryant Barnes on Scratch Welcome to my Scratch rendition of the hit song, "I'd Rather Pretend" by Bryant Barnes! This project was an exciting challenge in digital music creation, focusing on capturing the stripped-back, piano-driven R&B feel of the original track. Here’s a breakdown of the steps I took to bring this song to life using Scratch's tools: Laying the Foundation with Piano: The original song heavily features a piano track. I started by using the Music extension in Scratch to code the core chord progression. I used the play note () for () beats blocks with the "Piano" instrument to replicate the main melody and rhythm. The key was getting the timing right (BPM - beats per minute) to match the original's heartfelt, deliberate tempo. Building Rhythms: To add depth, I layered in simple, low-key drum patterns using different drum sprites. I used a central "controller" sprite to broadcast a 'beat' message and a wait block to ensure all the different instrument sounds stayed synchronized. Adding the Vocals (My Own Twist!): Since I couldn't use the original's iconic vocals due to copyright, I recorded my own audio for the main vocal lines! Using the built-in microphone and the "Record" option in the Sounds tab, I captured my voice singing key parts of the lyrics. Arrangement and Effects: I arranged the various sound blocks to follow the song's structure (verse, chorus, etc.). I experimented with the set volume to () and other sound effect blocks to add polish and make different parts of the song stand out, mimicking the build-ups in the original production. Creative Expression: This project helped me understand how music and coding are connected, especially the importance of step-by-step sequencing and loops. I wanted to honor Bryant Barnes' emotional delivery while putting my own unique, coded spin on the track. Explore the code to see how it all works, or hit the green flag to listen! I hope you enjoy my musical creation on Scratch. Feel free to leave a comment with feedback or remix it yourself!
