I am no Orpheus. There is no pain too large for the mortal realm to carry, I am a mortal; And the end was always going to come. I am no Orpheus, My poetry stings rather than soothes You are as far from a nymph maiden as it gets. But I would still look for you, Turn 'round again and again To make sure you follow, That your heart is pumping, not hollow. I am hardly an Orpheus-- Yet still I would take your hand Again and again To make sure you aren't just a vision Or an illusory delusion I would sing for you, Regardless, Though my voice may crack Though my rhymes may be cliche And my prose slack. Clearly, I am no Orpheus. Please, do not ask me to be Just as I will never ask you To be my Eurydice.
