*disclaimer- this is more focused on visual art, although i am aware that ai is ruining other types of art! first of all, EVERYONE. and i mean everyone, can draw. it's not a rare skill, it's not talent, no one is born knowing how to draw. it is LEARNED. it's where you have a vision of something you want to create, you get your hands on something you can create with (literally anything) and you create. because you CARE about what you are making, you are PASSIONATE about it. thats how artists come to be. every human-made art piece carries the history of the artist in some way, it carries meaning. here's the official definition of art according to Oxford Languages: "the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power." hmm.. lets look at some key words here, EXPRESSION. HUMAN. CREATIVE. IMAGINATION. EMOTIONAL POWER. art expression is taking an artist's inner world, your thoughts, feelings and experiences and turning that into something tangible, a way to connect with others. humans feel. we feel with all our hearts. artificial intelligence? thats not real. a robot cannot feel. the slop it makes is plain. no matter how much color it puts into it, it will always be flat. art is rooted in PASSION. a drive to create something from our human experience. ai doesn't have that. all ai 'art' is a stolen collage. pieces ripped from artists, put into a blender and spit out with a rotten cherry on top. ai doesn't have the ability to create. and to create, you have to imagine. you have a wonderful brain resting in your cranium, just ready to be used! imagining doesn't take a lot of energy. for all those ai users out there, that prompt you plugged into chatgpt at least used your imagination! now all you have to do is apply that to ANYTHING! you could tell your story through scraps of trash! emotional power. this one is important, especially now. you have power. you have a voice. take everything you feel is wrong with the world and turn that into something you can USE. make art to make others FEEL. INSPIRE others. bring them together. it's not hard. it really isn't. all you need is YOU. and to all artists if you're feeling a bit down, ai will NOT replace us. it will NEVER replace us. maybe right now we can't overcome it, but we can outlast it. ai is killing the planet. every prompt has an environmental toll. it produces carbon dioxide, which warms our planet. we don't have another earth to go to. WE are doing it. WE are the ones responsible. WE are the ones that can fix it. there are many other steps, but an important one is to STOP USING AI. give others a future.
