Chapter 1 Waking up in the cot after resting always hurts, and the food in the bunkers always sucked, although it couldn't be helped. The people were never allowed to go outside for leftover parts, seeds, or soil, they were just stuck in black containers waiting for death to take them, or at least, thats what Kathy thought. She had been in the bunker for at least 12 years, more than most of her friends which wouldn't seem longer since she only had three. Their were 13 bunkers, all the same size, one was for the meat animals which were weak due to the lack of food, a sleeping room with terrible cots that made you itchy when you got on them, a mess hall for the food and holding meetings which she could never go to, a water room, three storage rooms, a medic room, a learning room that never smelled good, and the rest of the bunkers for extra space except for one, which no one was aloud to go into except for the 'leaders' or higher order. She didn't mind being their in the beginning since it was said to be the only hope for the human race but as more people started to boycott the strict rules as well as break out fights, it never felt like home. Before the comet, she lived in a small apartment building with her dad. Her mom left them when she was five so it was just him and her all alone with each other. Her dad would always make sure she had a meal, sometimes he would give her his dinner so she could eat, It was always like that with them though, it never took much to make them feel happy. As she laid in her cot, she pictured the outside world in her head, how it was filled with red and brown dust, cold bodies laying on the ground, and a place that would never seem like home, she shuttered, the thought of it made her want to puke. A noise that came from the mess hall made her slowly turn her head to the black side of the wall, she groaned and sat up, she stretched her arms and grabbed her hair tie off the nightstand, it was time for lunch. **************** The cold floor pressed against her feet as she walked from the rest room to the mess hall. She went to the line and held her white tray out for them to dump on whatever trash they had prepared to feed everyone. A white mushy goop was then placed on the tray with some cool meat that looked undone, some peas, stale bread that feels like rock between your teeth, and some water with a glint of yellow in it. "Is there anything else y'all can serve, like some real food by chance?" The lady then shot her a stern look. "If you don't want it, then i suggest you not to eat at all." Kathies face slightly feel to an emotionless grin. She then nodded a thanks, and headed to the metal table in the back of the room with her three friends, Jaylen, Alison, and Daniel. Jaylen who was Cherri-icky and black Indian, she had short, curly brown hair that shown gold in the right lighting, with green eyes and a can do attitude that never stopped. She always looked so tan, even though they all never got light. Alison was white and had blond waved hair with pink hi-lights at the bottom, she always wore baggy clothes and had sneakers that always squeaked. She was always the funny one who did amazing art and always look pretty, even when she was sweaty from physical education. And then there was Daniel, a hard headed red neck with black skin and a wide grin, he was well active and was stronger than some of the men in the bunker. They were all their own person and they were all happy together. They all felt like they were family, thats what made life bearable in the bunkers. "Hey guys, so how was the learning sheet you got?" Daniel shrugged his shoulders, "I didn't really look at it in any way." Alison rolled her eyes with a flirtatious smile and elbowed him in the side, "What he's trying to say is that he made me do his work for him 'cause he needed my help, am I right Daniel?" "Hey, last I checked you offered to do my work, besides, we don't even need to know that stuff to begin I mean, do you all see where we are right now?" Alison and Jaylen nodded their head side to side, acting as though Daniel was just hopeless. [sigh] "He is right though," Jaylen said, "We don't need this information unless we'd just go out to the surface." Jaylen then looked at Alison who then looked at Daniel, they nodded and look at Kathy. Alison then grabbed one of her hands and placed it in hers, "we have a plan..." "A plan of what exactly?" Jaylen nudged Alison away, making her hand fall to the side of her waist and cause them to lose eye contact, "We have a plan to leave to go to the surface, a plan to leave this place, for good." ................Next chapter coming soon.............
