>> I tacked up Zodiac today, my rescue pony, ready to ride him for the very first time. He comes from a very traumatic background - he went through a terrible trailer accident before I got him - and I've worked hard to gain his trust. I've gotten on him once before, but today was the day I was actually going to ride him. >> We got in the arena, and I started him off at a walk, just letting him get comfortable. Thankfully, he seemed perfectly fine, maybe even a little happy to be working again. Once we warmed up, I asked for a rising trot. I'm so pleased with how responsive he is. If he wasn't so anxious, I think he would make a good school horse. >> I didn't want to wear him out, so after we walked and trotted around for a while, I took him out on a hack to cool down. I considered hand-walking him on the trail just because he is so nervous, but I decided he could take the challenge. I was prepared to be thrown off though! However, I was again pleasantly surprised with how he acted. Despite the snow and being in a new place, he did amazing! He did spook at literally nothing once, but all he did was sidestep and canter away - nothing I couldn't handle! >> All in all, it was great training day with my boy, Zodiac! I will never be able to show him because of his fear of trailers, but I love having him on the farm to ride!
