mapleshade fell into the river, water burning her lungs. she looked around frantically. her kits! where were they! she felt someone pull her out of the water. Appledusk. the other riverclan cats pulled the kits out of the water, they were dead. mapleshade rushed to their limp bodies and tried depretly to wake them. knowing it wouldn't work appledusk glared down at her and growled "What in starclan's name were you and the kits doing in the river" mapleshade looked up at him, shivering from the cold water "Appledusk! T-thunderclan... they found out! I was banished! they banished the kits too! they're dead appledusk!" a brown-redish she cat stepped out her tail around appledusk's "Appledusk? what's going on? who is she?" Appledusk brushed his cheek against hers lovingly glaring at mapleshade. that's when mapleshade realized Reedshine was Appledusk's mate. and she was pregnant. mapleshade's whole world came crashing down around her, her clan. her mate. her kits. all she had left was gone. shattered by ravenwing, by frecklewish, by appledusk... by oakstar.. she and some riverclan warriors picked up the kits when they got into the camp the riverclan medicine cat rushed over seeing the dead bodies. the medince cat noticed the bleeding scratches over mapleshade's eye but darkstar glared at her, telling her not to treat mapleshade. darkstar looks down from her rock "Mapleshade. why are you here? what happened to these kits? three kits have died today. how." appledusk spoke before mapleshade could "They were mine and mapleshade's." Reedshine pulled away from him in horror and mapleshade stared at him thinking 'ask me their names!' appledusk kept going "it was a mistake. a horrible mistake. I should have been loyal to my clan, to you reedshine.. I'm so sorry-" he was cut off by reedshine raking his muzzle with her claws "SHUT UP!" she yowled "HOW COULD YOU?! I TRUSTED YOU! SHE TRUSTED YOU! HOW COULD YOU?!" appledusk backed away mapleshade spoke up "A-appledusk! I loved you! I went through the agony of bearing your kits! and now you treat me worse then prey! -w-why?" darkstar spoke up "SILENCE!" "you leave now mapleshade. get out-" "NO!" reedshine spoke up, coming closer to mapleshade and wrapping her tail protectively around her "she has lost everything! her kits just died! let her stay darkstar! please..." darkstar sighs. "fine. appledusk, you may stay here but you will NEVER be deputy, have any important duties. you have proven your clan, and even your own MATE cannot trust you." appledusk growled and ran into the warriors den. about 4 moons later reedshine had her kits. one looked just like appledusk, mapleshade was there sitting with her "they're beautiful...." they heard appledusk trying to get in "Let me in! they're my kits too!" they ignored him. reedshine looked at the kits "would you like to name one?" mapleshade looked surprised "really? me?" reedshine pulled her closed with her tail, she was tired from giving birth but wanted mapleshade near her "Mapleshade.. we've been friends for moons now.. we're closer then most mates ever are in their lives.." mapleshade looked even more shocked "a-are you s-saying we should-" reedshine nods "yes. mapleshade I love you. appledusk was a peice of foxdung will you be my mate?" "of course!" mapleshade said. they named the 3 kits shadekit after mapleshade, larchkit after one of mapleshade's dead kits and willowkit after one of reedshine's favorite plants. appledusk mostly sulked around camp. no one would let him near the kits. no cats would talk to him beyond basic orders. he had been awful but also what had brought mapleshade and reedshine together.
