I am Nebula, a mostly tame wolf. I used to be a part of the Paw Patrol, however, there was an incident, and I was too ashamed to face them afterwards. I ran, far far away, all the way to the forest, where I reconnected with my wild brother, Link, who had been living in a ruined village in a forest near the edge of Adventure City. He has a sword, which he found in a temple in the middle of nowhere, and a motorcycle that looks like a unicorn. For a while I lived in the ruins with him. During this time he trained me to live in the wild, and to fight without modern technology. I knew I would need all the skills I could get to one day face my arch nemesis, James. Eventually, Link and I moved closer to the city, where I could properly repair my old Paw Patrol vehicle, a rusty, battered, and heavily damaged jet. The place we found was full of old junk and blueprints, specifically blueprints for a device called a ‘meteor magnet.’ I assumed this was some abandoned supervillain’s hideout. Since then we have been living here, trying to repair my jet without being discovered. “Are you sure this part goes here?” my brother questioned. “Trust me,” I said confidently, “I helped build this thing.” Link shrugged and shoved the gear into the socket. “Uh, it’s not working,” he said, confused. I sighed and shook my head, as I walked over to the rusty old jet we were trying to rebuild. “Kick it!” I said annoyedly. “You’re kidding, right sis?” Link said. I sighed again and thumped the jet with my hind leg. The jet whirred to life, then sputtered, backfired, and smoke began pouring from the cockpit and my brother was enveloped in the cloud. “See? It worked for a second! It just needs a power source…” I thought out loud. “I ‘cough’ have the strangest sister ‘hack’ in the world,” Link said, coughing from the smoke as he slid down from the large jet. “Why don’t we finish up tomorrow? It’s like three in the morning and it’ll be easier working by the light of day. Plus I’m getting sleepy,” my brother said with a yawn. I honestly had to agree with him, but I knew it was safer if we worked at night. “We can’t do anything during the daylight or someone might discover us. We’ll begin looking for a power source tomorrow night and install it in the jet if we have time…” I began to rant until I noticed my brother was already fast asleep. “Oh Link, you goofball,” I said, smiling as I curled up next to him, and I too began to fall asleep. We were awoken a few hours later by a loud clattering noise. I jumped up and roused my brother. “What? I’m up. What's going on, huh?” Link said, still half asleep. I quickly shushed him and motioned for him to get up and follow me. We creeped around the corner, saw a figure, and quickly hid under the jet. It was very dark and I could not see very well, but I could tell it was a dog. A faint glow was coming from the figure, I strained my eyes to see who it was, then I noticed a familiar symbol on the dog’s tag. I gasped in surprise and the dog must have heard me because it turned around and pounced on us! My brother and I quickly scrambled out from under the jet. Link stared menacingly at the figure and growled a little, but I motioned for him to calm down. “Who are you? You’re one of the Paw Patrol, right?” I questioned as the figure stepped into the moonlight and I finally got a good look at her. She was a cockapoo wearing a pink pilot outfit that seemed to glow. I could feel some kind of energy pulsing from her pup tag. Her ears perked up, “How did you know that?” she asked. “Hang on, why do you have a pup tag? Who are you?” she said suspiciously. “I asked first, you tell me who you are and I’ll tell you who we are,” I insisted. “Uh, okay, I’m Skye, the flying pup in the Paw Patrol,” she began. “A-ha! That’s why I didn’t recognize you! I should have known she was my replacement.” I said excitedly. “What?! What do you mean by ‘replacement’?! Who are you?!” Skye said, sounding a bit freaked out. “Right! Sorry, let me tell you what happened to me,” I began, “I assume Ryder hasn’t told you about Nebula, has he?” “I’m sorry, who?!” Skye exclaimed, still sounding freaked out. I sighed, “Please don’t interrupt. Now let me tell you, Nebula was the flying pup probably before Ryder even knew about you, and for a while she made the Paw Patrol really really famous, however… there was… an incident,” I continued dramatically, “An asteroid was heading straight for Adventure Bay. Nebula was tasked with destroying it and she did, but she fell into the ocean and the rest of the Paw Patrol thought she was dead.” “What happened to her?” Skye finally seemed interested. “Isn’t it obvious?” I questioned her. She stared at me and gave me a quizzical look. “I’m Nebula! Duh!” I practically yelled. Skye’s eyes widened and her look only seemed more quizzical. “So, like, do you want revenge or something?” she asked suspiciously. Her question threw me over the boiling point, I went crazy. Continued below
“What? No! I do not want revenge! Look, if you tell anyone that I’m still alive, there’s no way I’m letting that go, okay? Just go back to the Pup Tower and keep this quiet. No one will ever know,” I blustered as I ushered Skye out of the hideout. She took off without another word as I ran back inside and screamed into the first pillow I could find. I was so frustrated, I wanted nothing more than to reconnect with the Paw Patrol. The only person I could ever want revenge on is James and I don’t think I’m ready to tell anyone about what happened with him yet. “Link, put the hideout on lockdown and prepare all the emergency escape routes,” I said when I finally got my bearings, “She’s probably going to tell the whole Paw Patrol.” “All I heard was ‘hideout,’ ‘lockdown,’ and ‘emergency escape routes.’ Did I miss anything important?” Link said as I realized my face was still buried in the pillow. “Whatever,” I said, removing my face from the pillow, “I’ll take care of that stuff. You see about using that sword of yours as a power source for the jet. And before you freak out, it’s only temporary.” My brother must have heard my serious tone of voice because without another word he immediately went to get his sword. It was a few days later that Link spotted the Paw Patrol coming up the hill. He banged on some pots to signal me and I cranked up the jet. It whirred to life, then sputtered, then backfired. “Stupid hunk of junk!” I yelled and kicked the jet and it whirred to life once more. “Hey Link! C’mon, let’s go! We ain’t got all day!” I practically had to scream over the motor. “What, Sis? Aaah!” Link strained to hear me, fell through the roof of the hideout, and landed with a thump on the windshield of the jet. He got his bearings and managed to scramble inside just before we took off. “You sure you got everything sis? Also, where are we going?” Link said, still a bit dizzy from his fall. “I left nothing behind. If I had they would know we were here and could possibly track us. We’re going to the ruined village in the woods, our old home,” I explained. “So, why are we running from the Paw Patrol? Don’t you want to rejoin? If we don’t make ourselves known you won’t be able to rejoin,” Link continued to ask questions. I tried to ignore him but he was relentless. “Is it because you were replaced? That’s no reason to give up! Why, I bet you and Skye could become great friends! You’re both flying pups after all.” “Link, will you shut up? We’re going to reveal ourselves someday, I’m just not ready yet!” I almost yelled at him. The rest of the ride was sad and awkward silence. Unbeknownst to me and Link, the Paw Patrol had found out where we were going, and were tracking us that very moment. We were about halfway there when a laser came out of nowhere and almost hit us! “We’ve got company,” I said as I put the jet on autopilot and peered out the back window. I didn’t see anyone trailing us, “That’s funky, I thought I saw-,” I was cut off when several green bolts came from the hideout, “-a laser,” I finished. “Link! someone’s invaded the hideout, and I don’t think it’s the Paw Patrol!” I called to my brother, “Someone’s rebuilt the meteor magnet and I think it’s James!” “What? What?! What?!?!” he exclaimed, extremely surprised, “That guy? Really?! He hasn’t attacked us in forever! Why strike now?!” “He was waiting for us to leave the hideout so he could rebuild the meteor magnet and destroy all of Adventure City, I just know it. Now he will pay. You’ve gone too far this time James! Too far I say! There’s no turning back now, we will protect this city with all that we have!” I said dramatically. I turned the jet around and sped towards the old hideout. When we got close enough, I fired as many lasers as I could at the hideout. It crumbled, crushing the meteor magnet along with it. I watched, as James, an odd-looking german shepherd dog with purple markings clambered out of the rubble. “Those meteors are coming down whether you like it or not!” James screamed at me. I snarled at him angrily, then turned my attention towards the sky. “Hold onto your hat, we’re going to space!” I said to my brother as I pressed various buttons on the control panel of the jet. “Wait, whaaaAAAAAAAAH! TOO FAST! TOO FAST!” Link screamed as we blasted towards the sky. “Is this thing even equipped to go to space?!?! If it’s not, how are we gonna survive?! And what do we do if my sword runs out of power?! Do we just float endlessly in space?!?!” Link continued to scream at me, this time I kept my cool. “Calm down and activate the other laser blaster, we’re gonna be fine, I have a plan,” I told my brother. “Activate targeting computer,” I said, mashing some buttons here and there. I gripped the steering wheel tightly, “Gotta go fast,” I quietly said to myself. The jet blasted off faster than it ever had before. To be continued... (I ran out of space :P)
