Devised by ZIEL, one of the Sanctum's wizards and engineers, the sprite is a weapon designed to push the Sanctum's ability to manage an autonomous weapon to its limit, as while the Sanctum may not be able to create an artificial mind capable of controlling a full on body, creating a remote control mechanism to maneuver a simple flying object with minimal moving parts is relatively simple. Sprites are small cone-shaped metal objects that receive flight commands via radiation broadcasted from the wielder, their inventor ZIEL is capable of manipulating light naturally with magic but chips can be provided to other users that, once calibrated, allow thoughts to be transformed into commands broadcasted to the sprites. Sprites possess thirteen spark-powered thrusters, one large thruster at its base for swift maneuvering with two on each of its faces to remain suspended in the air and change which direction it is facing. A full omnidirectional propulsion system was proposed early in development that would use the plating itself to ionize the atmosphere but this was rejected as the plasma shell would prevent transmissions from reaching the sprite drones. The internals of the drones are composed of a spark battery and capacitor, the computer, the thrusters, and the laser apparatus. There are two sprite variants, red sprites and blue sprites. Red sprites use a ruby rod and a xenon flash lamp to focus spark into singular blasts of light that explode on impact by heating the target such that the matter struck transmutes into a plasma fireball. Though Sanctum technology allows for the heat to be managed well, red sprites are far from rapid fire, acting more like small rocket launchers, or a very big pistol if the intensity is turned down. Blue sprites on the other hand use titanium sapphire crystals energized by diode arrays in extremely rapid pulses to fire essentially a continuous laser beam, with the pulses allowing the singular blast to be relatively unaffected by the downsides of plasma clouds formed on impact. While it is less outright flashy than the explosive blasts of red sprites they do have more penetration and can be held in sustained fire for longer periods of time before needing to cool, even being able to be maneuvered while firing to create a cutting effect. The torch thrusters of the variants can also have spark put into it to recharge the sprite. Upon suggestion of Anathema, bioengineered plants have been incorporated into the design, a secondary battery that burns through chemical energy storage to slowly create new electricity to feed into the battery. Thanks to the plants' connection to the world core, this also allows for the drone to receive directives over M-mail should disruption of the air waves occur. The plants are largely metallic and function more akin to machine than living creature.
