Click to see alternate versions! Made a post about this art piece on one of my socials (I think that’s the correct way to say that???) but I’m gonna copy what I said on there here in the hopes that it can be helpful to some of you guys. Had a very particular scene in mind with this piece. Drawing and design wise I like it, though the scenery probably won’t be the same due to an aspect of the scene that I forgot about as I was drawing it. Color wise, I don’t really like it, as I don’t think it evokes the intense atmosphere I was going for. Looking back, I think this was for two reasons. Number one, there isn’t a lot of contrast, specifically between the characters and the background. When I approach this scene again I want to make the background a lot darker and the characters a lot more saturated. And number two, the background tones are green. I tried to hide this with overlays, but there’s still an evident green undertone. It’s the reason that I prefer the gradient maps, since the color is changed entirely. The green was on purpose, since that is the color theme (ig…? If that’s a correct term) of one of the settings in the comic. But in the finished piece it ultimately detracts from the atmosphere I wanted to create. That’s why I’m making concept art though! I want to use color a lot more than I did in my last series, so it’s important for me to practice and learn what does work and what doesn’t. Anyways I want to encourage you guys not to be afraid messing around with colors. Don’t be afraid to make something jarring or for colors to be unrealistic because you can make some great art if you’re not afraid to experiment. Also song is Twilight by Boa
