Chapter Three How could the guards forget about something like that? I struggled to stand up with my hands still tied behind my back. I kicked the ground, attempting to stand up, but to no avail. I failed; the ground was too slippery. I then thought, "Maybe if I lean up against something, I could push myself up to stand". I then looked behind me and saw that the nearest tree was about 50 feet away (equivalent to around the length of 4 cars). "Dang it," I said to myself, "the ground is too slippery for me to push myself to the tree." I sighed; this was going to be more complicated than I thought. I then crawled towards the tree despite my hands being tied and pushed myself against it, the first time I tried, I almost made it but slipped and fell back down, my face hitting the dirt. "Ugh!" I spat out dirt from my mouth, and I rolled over onto my back and stared at the sky for a second. I tried again, and the second time I managed to stand up against the tree, breathing a sigh of relief. I stood there for a second, catching my breath. I then looked around to see if there was any way I could break the zip ties holding my hands. I saw nothing at first but I then saw out of the conrer of my eye, to my right was a sharp stick. *sigh* I know, I could just hear the laughter of everyone in the city in the back of my mind, a stick? That wouldn't do anything to those zip ties. I knew this, but it was the only thing I could think of. I looked around for anything else that could possibly break them but found nothing else, so either the zip ties break and I'll be free or the stick breaks and I'll just rot out here. I had forgotten that the tree was the only thing keeping me standing, so as soon as I leaned over a little bit to try and roll the stick towards me, I fell. I fell flat onto my face again, my face landed right in front of the stick. I groaned at my stupidity for a second and I then rolled over onto my back to where I could grab the stick behind my back with my hands. I grabbed the stick and I rubbing it against the plastic of the restraints rapidly. This didn't seem to do anything at first, but the smooth surface of the zip ties began to lose its shine. The plastic of the restraints looked rougher like it was wearing thin, even if only by a little. My arms began to ache, and my fingers started to go numb from the strain. I almost thought of giving up gave, I convinced it was useless. My arms then began to grow tired and I look up at the sky to see where the sun was, it was setting. I was starting to panic a little, I didn't know what could be out there and let alone I was next to the forest I got caught in. I got so tired that I took a step forward and fell while the stick was still tied up in the plastic of the zip ties. But when I fell to the ground I heard a snap and I felt my wrists move freely for a moment, the restraints had snapped. I got up and sat down against the tree breathing heavily, I had spent most of the day and energy on just getting those zip ties to snap. I was relieved that I could bow move freely, no restraints, nothing. After I had caught my breath for a few minutes I got up and picked up katana that had been laying there since the guards at thrown it there and I withdrawed it against my hip again. I felt even more relieved knowing that I had something to defend myself with again. I then looked at the sun setting and realized that I would need to find shelter fast, I then looked st the dark forest in front of me. "It might be the best idea but if I stay here, something will eventually come after me" I said to myself. Being outside the gates of the city is very dangerous because no one knew what is out there. The danger is the unknowing, I took one last look at the city, the place I once knew and I then turned and sprinted off into the dark forest, off into danger.
How does it work? Friction creates heat to wear down the plastic of the zip ties and eventually a sudden force will make them snap, like falling for example Song Credit: Dream By Imagine Dragons Chapter 2 https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1265330707/
