Press the Stage to change Press B to stop Music! Be prepared for my yapping :))) Hii! So... this project is about the beauty standards of the 1700s-1800s Versailles period. I have been very interested in the history of fashion and the sad past behind it. I believe that this is a great example of how the beauty standards can hurt you. Self love is the best! For this project I tried a more realistic style so I hope you enjoy! Scroll down for history. History: The history of "poison makeup" at the Palace of Versailles and throughout 17th-18th century Europe was driven by a desperate pursuit of a flawless, pale complexion, which was seen as a symbol of aristocracy. Both women and men applied toxic substances—most notably lead and arsenic—to their skin to cover blemishes, resulting in chronic poisoning, skin damage, and sometimes death. (Summary from Google) The Versailles period was a period of big and eccentric styles. An example of one of the fashion icons from this period would be Marie Antoinette. This period included large dresses, lots of corsets, wigs, beauty marks, and a pale complexion with rosy cheeks and lips. I actually love the style of this period and they knew what they were doing except for the poison aspect.
My inspiration was definitely masks that were used in masquerade balls but if they looked like a real human face. Heh backstory... I was in history class totally doing what I was supposed to do (not doodling :/) and now uh... my teacher told me that I have to use my art for an assignment since I can't pay attention so... yea Music: Young and Beautiful- Lana Del Rey.
