---------------------------IMPORTANT----------------------------- If you have already read the Rules of the game or if you want to read them here, at your own pace (which I recommend), press 'g' to skip to the guessing game. ------------------------------RULES--------------------------------- No negative numbers! No imaginary numbers! No irrational numbers! No numbers greater than 1000! No guessin' numbers that ye already guessed! No words or letters! All noninteger numbers must be expressed as decimals. In other words, mixed numbers and fractions must be converted to decimals. Repeatin' decimals must be expressed by repeatin' the digits that repeat twice. The first time the digits repeat, ye don't change them at all. The second time the digits repeat, ye round the last digit up if it be 5 or higher. If it be 4 or lower, don't change it at all. Here arrr some examples to help ye understand better: Four tenths repeatin' would be expressed as .44 Five tenths repeatin' would be expressed as .56 Three and eight hundred forty-three thousandths repeatin' would be expressed as 3.843843 Three and eight hundred forty-six thousandths repeatin' would be expressed as 3.846847 Me favorite number isn't a repeatin' decimal whose last digit is nine, so you don't have to worry about place values changin'. If ye guess the wrong number or a number that doesn't follow the rules, ye'll be walkin' the plank! Good luck, matey! --------------------------HELPFUL HINTS------------------------ If you guess incorrectly, the 'Guess Again?' button will tell you whether you should guess lower or higher next time. If you use this to your advantage, you will be able to guess the number eventually. If you give up, however, you can click 'See inside' and see the scripts in the stage. There is a comment that will tell you my favorite number. Don't feel bad about cheating; I worked hard on the prize and I wouldn't want it to go to waste. :)
Much like Find The Eight, this project was originally played on a calculator, so I wanted to keep many of the elements from the original game (the WALKTHEPLANK and GOLD text, Captain Skinnylegs, etc.) while still making many improvements (all of the animation, the Guessed Numbers List, etc.). Unless you count my Least to Greatest; Greatest to Least project (which was only created because of this project), I've never really used Lists because I thought they looked sloppy. So I've gotten over this aversion by creating a character (Captain Skinnylegs) who speaks mainly in Lists. I still don't completely understand how they work (why do they randomly grow bigger or shrink or move when I refresh the page?) but at least I am no longer intimidated by them. Unfortunately, not all of the elements of my project are working perfectly. I have fitted the Lists to what works on my computer screen, so if you have a different screen size, the Lists may be larger, smaller, or out of place. Please pardon this slight sloppiness. If you have a different-sized computer, the Rules List may omit one of the Rules. If this happens, please use the Rules in the Instructions. Also, I'm not quite sure if you can scroll up and down in the Lists, which may be a problem if you want to see all of the Guessed Numbers. If anyone has any advice that might help me fix these problems, I would be thankful if you type it in the Comments. Until then, I'm sorry that these problems exist. The intro shows how I turned into Captain Skinnylegs, so of course I had fun making it. The sneezing sound took some sound editing to get just right; you might have to turn your volume up to hear it. The thumbnail is a picture from the WALKTHEPLANK and GOLD screens combined with a sharkbitten sign at the bottom. Doubloons dot the 'i's and a slightly modified cutlass is the 'b'. The script that sorts my Guessed Numbers List from least to greatest is a simpler version of the script from my Least to Greatest; Greatest to Least project ( Once again, thanks to for the script that filters out non-numerical answers. The stick figure in the walking the plank animation is originally from another project I'm working on. I was glad to have an opportunity to repurpose the walking loop. The tan thing around his wrists is a rope that was used to tie his arms behind his back. While making the boat, I discovered that adding the lines made it more cartoony and fun, so I decided to go with them. If you couldn't tell, the jagged hole in the 'Guess Again?' sign is a shark bite. The prize animation is supposed to be an aerial shot of you lying on a bed of gold lazily picking up and dropping your doubloons. There are rubies, topazes, diamonds, emeralds, more coins, and even a cutlass scattered in the sand. The rectangular gems were more difficult to make, but I think they add a nice effect. The cutlass blade is colored with a silver-to-light-blue gradient that makes it shine. I titled the location 'Skinnylegs' Cove' because I've always liked the idea of private coves. This sign was also bitten by a shark. The blue semicircle at the bottom was supposed to be the ocean. The animation of the stick figure was fun because it loops forever, which symbolizes the endless quantity of gold that Captain Skinnylegs has gifted you. The music in the WALKINGTHEPLANK animation is The Crabby Song by Adam Bryant from the album Sandra Boynton's Rhinoceros Tap . The music in the GOLD animation is Golden Ticket/I Want It Now by Harry Connick, Jr. Captain Skinnylegs' favorite number is also my favorite number and I will use it as a fun Easter Egg to spot in some of my upcoming projects, so be on the lookout! Shiver me timbers, ~Milkshake-Man-V
