Take a look at the update before reading what's below. <--- ----------------------------------------------------------------------- I am aware. I went through that "verify your state" pop-up not knowing what it was for. And to be perfectly honest, I'm furious. Or at least, I was for the first few minutes after I became aware of the situation. It's totally normal for people to encounter these "major disappointment at first sight" situations, even if that disappointment would later be factually justified. So why not I try to ease the unrest for this one in particular? As you can see here, this Scratch Team member says that using AI to generate sprites/pictures/anything is officially a currently rejected suggestion due to ethical concerns (a.k.a. the concerns of this scratch community hating it very much). Plus, from my previous AI-related project, I mentioned the gen-AI feature would need too much work for it to be applicable. In a certain blog post which you can also see here, they specifically stated that they are looking forward to developing an AI that helps new scratchers learn how to use Scratch and how to improve on it. I found ZERO mentions of art generation related statements while looking through that post. Only that the AI is supposed to be a debugging assistant, a storyteller, and a discovery tool to find peers and projects, not a sprite generator or all that related hoopla. So, given all this information, the AI models (maybe just the one, idk) the ToS is saying they will train will probably just be some assistants that help other Scratchers rather than something that can generate sprites for them based off the information it got from other projects' content. It doesn't specify on this, and it's most likely where all the concern is coming from. But, yes, I know. It's an AI training thing. And AI training things are still not that reputable, and I won't stop you from protesting if you plan to. (I'm not too fond of them either.) Just remember to step back and take a closer look before assuming that something will actually be what you think it is, with absolute certainty.
