So with the recent scratch ToS, many artists on scratch are worried about the safety of their art. ALTHOUGH it has turned out to be a false alarm, it is still a wake up call for us to exercise caution. Edit: It has been announced that image generation is not going to be a part of the scratch AI, but it is still important that artists know how to protect their art from AI that DO use AI generation, therefore this guide will serve as a precaution against the AI who do steal art. Here is the project explaining the situation regarding AI training: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1269751874/ Updated: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1270291994/ To help you protect your art better, here are some of the tips I have collated from the experience of my friends and I. DISCLAIMER: Not many methods are effective, and these listed ones don't provide the best protection 100% of the time. If there is any other way I missed feel free to point it out in the comments. 1. Overlay your art with noise or other textures to mess with the AI Details --> https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1269814988 2. Use Glaze or Nightshade (search them up) Nightshade identifies an object in an image and puts a mask/layer over the top of it to confuse the AI -- a more efficient way than to overlay things yourself. 3. Watermark your art or cover it with text It's not recommended because some AI has the ability to get past your watermarks, but it is still a layer of defence nevertheless. These are just defenses, and like barricades to a castle, they will be broken down eventually. One day AI will find a way to get around these protections, but having something is better than having nothing at this moment. The internet has much more tips if you are interested in protecting your art against AI -- I recommend you doing your own research. Stay safe out there :) First posted 23rd Jan 2026 24th Jan 2026 -- edit due to information that scratch AI is not used to generative art. Reference:
