As most of you know, Scratch recently updated its Terms of Service. This means that any artwork posted here could potentially be taken and used by AI. First of all, Scratch is a KIDS’ website. Human art being stolen is already a serious issue, but childrens art being used this way is even worse Many kids skip over the TOS, not realizing that their artwork could be fed into an AI system. Scratch is meant to promote real, human creativity, not turn childrens work into training data. And it’s not just Scratch. I’ve noticed more and more apps and platforms adding AI features. From Roblox’s AI face verification to changes like this, it feels like AI is being pushed everywhere without ANY thought about who it affects. Scratch is a platform for people to learn and create. Most of the artwork posted here is made by children and teens who are practicing and improving their skills. When AI generated art is created, the original artist(s) don’t get credit AT ALL! Their effort, creativity, and learning are erased. AI isn’t completely bad. Using AI for things like study guides or flashcards can be genuinely helpful. It can even be life changing for people with disabilities, making daily tasks easier. But this kind of AI “art” has gone too far. But we might be able to stop this (kid of) Remix this project or make your own project talking about this issue. The more people who are aware of this the better.
