Please read for clarification on the AI Scratch is training: https://scratchfoundation.org/blog/coming-soon-your-creative-learning-assistant Turns out I was wrong about Scratch using our art to train AI models! Whoo! (Although I would like to apologize for spreading misinformation, I should've looked into it more). While I'm still against gen AI and I'm skeptical about the tools they want to implement, it will NOT be using our art as training data or generating images. It seems mostly to be a coding/inspiration assistant, and will be opt-in to use. Personally, I think an AI tool like this could limit creativity by thinking for kids instead of encouraging to think for themselves if implemented/done incorrectly, but that's just my personal take, and I'm not knowledgeable on the subject. It appears (and I want to be clear, this is just my interpretation) that any training data from us would mostly be text and possibly code. Not super jazzed about that, but everything we've written has already been scraped lol. But not our images, and it won't be an image generator. So yeah! It's not so bad after all! Update: I would like to clarify that Scratch DOES still have the right to use our content to train AI models, so things could always change, but for now that's not what's happening. I would still be cautious because things could always change. For now I will continue posting, because I want to share my art online and there isn't really any "safe" places to do so. Even anti-AI sites often get scraped, and the few with explicit protections (like, not just in their TOS, but with actual coding protections) that I'm aware of aren't very big or are focused on a specific topic. I don't want my art to be used this way, but I also want to share my art, and I don't want online spaces to be void of new, real art.
