She tried to remember her dream. Was she flying with her younger siblings, who she hadn’t seen in two years? But they didn’t have wings, at least not yet. Wait. She jumped out of bed, realization dawning on her orange face. Today was her siblings’ Metamorphosis! But she had school today, and her principal would never let her go to a ‘lowly’ SilkWing event. If only I could sneak out… “I’m sorry Flicker, I can’t be there,” she whispered to her window. Hesitantly, Autumn headed to the kitchen for breakfast, said bye to her father, and rushed out the front door, her translucent wings buzzing as she flew towards Yellowjacket Hive University. She was glad her first two classes were science and engineering, and not history, especially since most of their lessons involved dead LeafWings or SilkWing servants. “Hey, Autumn,” the dragon sitting next to Autumn said. That was Silverfish, her best friend. “Silverfish! It’s good to see you! I can’t believe we have a week until the school year is over!” Autumn turned to look at her friend. She was a light yellow and tan HiveWing, with splotches of gray and speckles of black all over her. They’d been best friends ever since they were young dragonets. A yellow and black striped HiveWing walked into the classroom and sat down near Autumn’s desk, interrupting her thoughts. “Hi Horntail,” Autumn waved her wing at him. Horntail looked up from his desk. “Hi Autumn,” He smiled. “Do you want to go to the garden after school?” Autumn fought to stay calm as her face began to blush. “Y-yes,” She stammered. “Ooh,” Silverfish muttered with a smirk. “Someone’s in love.” “No!” Autumn said, a little too loudly. “We’re just, uh, friends.” Are we? Silverfish raised her eyebrow, but said nothing, as the teacher began the lesson.
