So… I’ve heard that Scratch is starting to use AI. In 2026, many critics are calling this a betrayal of trust. Scratch was always a place for creativity, learning, and real problem-solving, especially for kids. But now it feels like users of all ages are being pushed to trade their hard work and ideas to help train a machine-learning system—without a clear choice to opt out. That doesn’t sit right with me. I already have mixed feelings about Scratch because of unfair bans, and knowing that AI is now being used for moderation makes it worse. AI moderation can misunderstand context, jokes, or harmless conversations. What if someone jokes about something dark, like gore in a fictional or joking way, and the AI takes it seriously? What if it labels someone as dangerous when they aren’t? That’s scary. I use Scratch because of the community—the people, the projects, the events, and the creativity. I don’t use it to “connect” with an AI. I like making projects, sharing them, and seeing others enjoy and remix them. I don’t need an AI to take my work, analyze it, or feed it into an algorithm. My creativity isn’t data. Scratch is fun because it’s human. It’s about learning, experimenting, and growing together. If Scratch keeps leaning into AI instead of listening to its users, especially its younger ones, it risks losing what made it special in the first place. Because of all this, I’ve decided to take a 3-month break. If you want to talk to me, you can reach me on my StrawPage. Take care, and I’ll see you early April. Love, @N1ceK1dd
