The railway needed a locomotive that had a higher fuel capacity than the previous engines, (excluding Bobert) and one that could push with great strength. Originally this engine was to be a Consolidation, but the railway ultimately decided to build yet another Forney. No. 8 has a track record of bouncing a lot during high speeds. The engine strong for its size, and can in fact travel further than the previous Forneys. No. 8 spends its days hauling the heaviest goods trains, and also banking up trains when needed. - Hold space to blow whistle
