Be sure that you have the time to make it through the entire talk. Estimated Read Time (excluding extra content + credits): 2-3 min -- Give me your rough estimate on how many studios out there are about the new AI update. Now give me your rough estimate on how many people out there are upset about the new AI update. I didn't count. I can't. That's right, your guess doesn't matter. Just like your reaction to this situation. I realized long ago that AI will always be coming. AI is the future. AI is inevitable. I'm just gonna say it. People's efforts to keep it off Scratch are futile. Its constant rejection is useless, because soon AI will be everywhere. It's like the coronavirus. It spreads and adapts quickly. I'm not, however, saying that AI is entirely bad, like viruses. However, I do not like the way that ST brought about its introduction into Scratch (after face sensing). As many others before me have stated, there should be something like an option to toggle whether we're fine with letting AI be trained on our content. This forceful approach is highly intrusive and crosses boundaries, especially with those more sensitive to the rise of AI. I have no real opinion on the CLA (Creative Learning Assistant). It could be helpful. It could be unhelpful. I believe above all else that Scratchers' experience with this "catbot" will be different for every person; some people will rely on it, others will constantly avert from using it, et cetera. Say what you want about the CLA. ST says it is an opt-in feature, anyway, and I expect Scratchers to use it like any other chatbot. There's nothing inherently bad about it that I can see. The worst it itself can probably do is fall out of use. Hopefully you have heard the updates on this topic. If not, here's your TL;DR: Scratch AI integrations will NOT be trained on our projects. Here's a key quote from the latest ST update: "We also want to assure you that right now, we are not training any AI models on Scratchers’ data." Where data will actually be collected is unclear. Will you still have to use assets such as AI poison filters and the such to guard your art and code? That's up to you to decide. Reread the Scratch TOS if you want; it has not changed since the controversial update. Likely thing is that commerical AI bots can still use your projects as data to train their models. TAKE THIS WITH A HUGE GRAIN OF SALT. AS AN ORDINARY SCRATCHER WITH ONLY SO MANY RESOURCES, I CANNOT GUARANTEE ANY OF THIS. That's not going to make me lower my guard, though. I will not rely heavily on AI in Scratch until it has proven itself to be reliable and trustworthy. To all, this applies to other AI tools as well. Be mindful of your decisions regarding AI until we are able to list more sureties about them throughout the near-to-far future. No, I am not paranoid about AI turning on humanity, but it is certain that it will take over the world. Once you can accept that fact, advancement will not affect you as much, as it should. Ages come and go. With each generation, more things are learned and more things get done, faster each time. Agnostophobia is the fear of the unknown. It is natural and superglued to human nature. It's what's kept us alive. But unlike the ancient days, it's us humans who are making the unknown. We've been making unknowns for millennia, and look how far we've come. Remember, there was a time when the car was first invented, and many people doubted it even had a future in society. I may not have complete faith in AI today, but I am fairly certain that someday we'll learn to accept it when it becomes better than us at everything. What you as an individual do doesn't really matter. Keep living your Scratch life however you'd like it. I don't care. AI doesn't care. AI will come to every corner of the internet, and all we can do is sit back, "relax" and "enjoy" the show. You don't have to agree with me at all. I would never force you to think in any other way but your own. Take what you'd like from this rant, do whatever you'd want with the presence of this wall of text. I'm a busy guy. I don't care. It doesn't matter. Do what you think is right. Keep on Scratching. - Ruin ⬡ -- Credits to others like and for inspiring me to talk about this.
