This isn't part of the DTA, I was watching The Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (really good movie imao) and I was :sparkle: inspired :sparkle: to create an eagle creature. The Drakture, despite what it may look like, is actually a vulture (not an eagle) crossed with a lizard. Why would they have lizard tails when bird ones provide more balance? I'm glad you asked! While drakture tails provide balance, they also have a number of other uses. There are flaps of bright skin on the tail that are used by males in courtship. They flare the flaps and do a lil dance. A rarer use of a tail is a lure to catch prey. Occasionally drakture will lie in wait, twitching their tail, until something tries to capture it. Then that something will be eaten. This method works especially well in water to catch fish. Draktures have clutches of 1-3 eggs every breeding season. The survival rate of chicks is rather low, and only around 1/3 survive.
Art and creature by me. Made in Procreate.
