Press Space Sign up in comments to compete! Top 10 will be featured in a compilation project, posted on the WINNER'S profile, proposed as featured, and added to Association USB. RESTRICTIONS: Only artists who are currently on the USB Catalog may sign up one of their singles, albums, or LPs as source material. ANYONE may compete as samplers. (Artists outside USB who place in the top 10 will also win entry to Association USB.) CONTEST RULES: Your submission must meet the following criteria: 1. Sample at least 3 seconds of the source material 2. Be at least 60 seconds in length 3. Be your own original composition You may use ANY outside samples and ANY other tools, including heavy processing. Sample itself must be recognizable as being from the source material. In other words, don't chop it up into a million grains or bury it deep in the mix as ambience. JUDGING Judging will be done by a group of 5+ Scratchers who are not participating in the competition and have varying levels of familiarity with Beepbox and music in general. SAMPLING vs PLAGIARISM According to Google Gemini: Sampling typically involves technological manipulation, whereas plagiarism involves copying core artistic elements to hide the source. Your song can't sound exactly like the source material. The key here is to use just enough processing and progression that your song is fundamentally different, while also being recognizably derivative of the source material. Some ways you can do this are by changing the key, tempo, rhythmic structure, etc. Open to questions! LIST of PARTICIPANTS: ---#!
