Her final breaths were music to my ears. The purple light was coursing through my veins, nothing like anyone in my time had ever heard. You could see it emanating from inside my skin. My deep purple dress lay draped across her body. No more could she hurt my family or the world. The rustling of the fabric was the only sound heard now, no more screams, the ones that filled my head, the ones that gave me a headache. They were just music in my memory. My memory? Had it been recovered? I hadn’t noticed the change, but I did feel it; something new, something powerful, something dangerous. Then it was black, my head pulsed, and my heart throbbed. This was something new, but it wasn’t just a single memory; it was something more. It was a story. A story of someone who once was, a story of a child. A story of a woman. A story of an organization that stretched far beyond the reaches of the human mind. It didn’t feel right, but it yearned for me to explore past the depths of my consciousness. The little consciousness I had left, at least. So I pushed through the endless dark until I found something solid, something I could wrap my head around. Something missing but still real, something purely mine. ***** “Love is a troubling thing.” The lady with green emerald eyes that sparkled so much it was hard to focus on what she was saying. She wasn’t human, and that was why I was here. “One day, it’s the only thing keeping you going; the next, it’s the thing stopping you from moving forward with your life,” she explained. Nia Everlee, I played the name in my head. That name Everlee wasn’t a name you would find belonging to a modern, middle-aged love enthusiast. It was the kind of name that you would find belonging to a siren, searching for a helpless mortal, ready to feast on its very being. “Now for questions!” Everlee said. The crowd buzzed with excitement and soon hands shot up all over. Followed by my hand, which Everlee’s eyes gravitated towards. Everlee’s eyes widened with fear, which I responded to with an evil smirk. Okay, Everlee we could do this the easy way, or we could do this the hard way. She turned her attention away from me. No no no her attention needed to be on me. “You! Over there! In the green blazer!” she pointed to someone who I couldn’t see. I gritted my teeth, Hard way I guess. I pulled my green purse out from under my chair. I opened it and lifted out a bottle of perfume, it was vintage, with a floral design, pink and porcelaine. Then I squeezed the puffer at the end and inhaled the mist. A few people around me coughed, it was a strong floral scent. 3 2 1 Everyone in the room collapsed, and so did Everlee. I stood up, stepping over people, I made my way towards the front of the stage Everlees limp body paled quickly, her human facade quickly fading. Everlee’s nails elongated and sharpened and tinted a sickly neon yellow. Her skin paled then deepened into a artificial looking gray color. It shined like plastic. Gil like lines carved her limbs. Her hair grew 10x the length of the human facades plain chocolate brown bob. I twisted her now light yellow hair between my fingers. I reached into her blazer pocket and my fingers closed around a dagger. I pulled it out and studied the ornate handle. It was silver, a wave like pattern surrounding the hilt. There was a sea green crystal embedded in the tip. As much as I loved jewels I couldn’t take it. When I finished inspecting the unconscious Nia Everlee I moved on to complete the process. I pulled out my own dagger, simple, plain, and awfully drab next to Everlee’s. I held it above my hand, both hands gripping it like a last lifeline. Then I plunged it into her chest. She didn’t bleed, inhumane creatures such as herself rarely did. She screeched in agony. Despite her hauntingly pretty features her screech was awful and banshee like. It rang through the building. My ears rang. “What are you doing you wench?” She screeched. Her long elegant fingers closing around my hands that held the dagger that impaled her chest. She tried to pull but I held it down. ”I’m making sure you stay where you belong.” I retorted lowering my face towards hers which was twisted in pain. My blonde hair falling over her face. I smirked. “This is what happens to people like you.” I whispered into her ear. Everlee’s face fell and her eyes widened before fluttering closed. I waited until her limbs stilled before slowly pulling out the dagger and looking at its blood free surface. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. Soon. Soon I will be done. Soon. He promised
