I'm definitely late to this, spring semester just started so you know how it goes People have been asking me my opinion on the new AI policies of Scratch, so I wanted to clear some things up (at least to my understanding) Let me start by making one thing very clear: generative AI is extremely harmful both to the environment and artist, writers, and countless other jobs. I do not support the use of generative AI in any way. I’m not very happy with how Scratch is handling AI usage and training. They said no user data was being used to train AI, but after reading through the TOS it seems like user content is being allowed to train generative AI. This may seem contradictory, but data and content are two different things, and content includes images and art. I reached out to ST to try to clear this up, but they gave me an automated and vague response, making me think that it is as I fear. MORE BELOW
Because of this, I will be taking a large step away from Scratch as a whole. I’m not sure if or when I’ll be back, but as of right now SCA is cancelled (I’m so sorry) and Strays is discontinued on Scratch. I will most likely be redrawing and reformatting the current chapters and posting them offsite. I’ll check in here every now and then, but until the AI policy is cleared up I will probably not be posting art on here.
