tw for grief and mentions of deth ❆ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ☔︎︎ the sky was choked with clouds, each one sobbing thin slivers of rain. the echos of thunder rumbled at the edge of the horizon as snowdropshimmer wandered out of the mossclan camp. the cries of gleeful kits could be heard from many fox-lengths away from the edge of the camp, despite the fact that the innocent little scraps of fur should’ve been asleep by then. snowdropshimmer could still remember when they were one of them, building rock towers and playing mossball. her, but also periwinkleblossom. them, but also myrtlepaw. them, but also lovagekit. and yet, snowdropshimmer was the only one left to remember. as snowdropshimmer began to meander farther away from the camp, her pace grew faster and faster, until she was running, running, running… droplets of rain battered what seemed to be the entire universe. at least, it was snowdropshimmer’s entire universe. the droplets were cold and unforgiving, like the cold claws that had ripped their childhood friends away from her. they didn’t know what had become of her siblings; they had flickering memories of playful cries and indignant yelps from her distant past, but those faded more every day. did she ever really have siblings? they’d never dared to look for them. she didn’t know their names. perhaps they didn’t have any at all. they screeched to a sudden stop at the edge of a small cliff, gazing down at the raging creek below. it gobbled up every raindrop, swelling to double it’s size. snowdropshimmer watched it. it was vioIent, in a calm way. in a way, it collected the raindrops, then protected them for the rest of it’s life. should snowdropshimmer be like the river? could she? could they protect what was left of her childhood innocence? could they protect their friends, their clan? no. they probably couldn’t. she was just one of the many raindrops in the sky. one of millions… that was all they would ever be. ever could be. but… there wasn’t anything stopping her from trying. they could try to protect everyone… snowdropshimmer’s tears merged with the battering raindrops, becoming one with the elements. they could try. she could try to do anything to protect. she could, and they most certainly would. but for now… snowdropshimmer watched the storm from her perch on the cliff, taking in every flash of lightning and shard of rain. and they’d watch every storm after that. to remind her of their past… and that time kept flowing. just like the creek.
