capture the flag Chiron looked at me with silent wonder. I sat down. Everybody was silent. Chiron regained his composure and announced, “well then Banyan, favored by Athena and Ares, welcome to camp” everybody waited for a second then cheered. Chiron waited till it died down the replied “we do have capture the flag tonight. who will take Banyan?” another round of cheering and applause. someone stood up. It was a girl of about nineteen with blond hair and a dagger sheathed at her belt. she wore a grey shirt with the word ATHENA on it replied. “Blue team will take him. we could use a fresh set of eyes on the battlefield. that and I’d like to know why my mother has blessed him” another round of cheering. Chiron replied “very well then. banyan, meet with the Athena, Hephaestus, apollo, and Poseidon cabins after dinner. You have 15 minutes to finish dinner, then 30 to prepare. to the gods!” he shouted. “Well then, that settles it” Harley said. “Why?” I asked. “Well, that means that Aphrodite, Ares, Hermes, and Nemesis are all together, plus the rest of the campers.” he explained. “that’s like, five to one!” capture the flag part two. I followed the rest of the Hephaestus campers to a clearing behind Harley’s cabin. I was given a shield, a helmet, and a breastplate. I set the shield aside, as it was big and bulky. I readjusted my prosthetic arm and joined the others who were ready. I found Harley and we decided to stick to the right flank, as that was the weakest. He was concerned that I didn't know what I was doing, but I had confidence, and the best way to learn is from experience. I was ready. The horn sounded, and we waded into the woods. the Athena cabin oversaw guarding the flag, so apollo took the right flank, and Hephaestus took the left. We trudged over to a creek, where we decided to stop. We were expecting to be attacked soon enough, so we got into a phalanx formation, with shields and spears in the front with the swordsmen, plus archers in the back with me and Harley. We were told to stay back so I can learn and watch. I tried to argue, but Harley told me not to complain as we will all fight soon enough. as expected, twenty or so Ares campers rushed forwards through the underbrush and collided with the phalanx. campers fell, and arrows whistled through the air. We waited, and suddenly Ares pulled back, with only about 8 campers out of commission. we counted our losses, and those who had been “killed” were sent to the back. We still had about thirty to forty-five campers in phalanx, but we retreated about an eighth of a mile and made a crescent formation that connected to Athena’s cabin.
