LORE ___________________________________________ The Alzcaan Sand Worm! This is a bug-like creature that originated from the planet of Aldernuma. The Alzcaan Sand Worms live underground but frequently come above ground to both have a snack on the citizens or to breathe for a quick minute. Like we do, they collect the oxygen molecules while breathing out the carbon dioxide, but they can also turn some of those carbon dioxide atoms back into oxygen, making them able to breathe underground with no oxygen for a little around 10 minutes. Because of how frequently it surfaces, people who live there have an entire alarm system that they need to connect to every day. Once the alarm is sounded every 10 minutes (i know its very inconvenient) they must return to their homes. Before this system, they never knew when the Worm would surface, making it very dangerous to go outside. The houses on Aldernuma have all been fortified with 10 inch thick steel so that if the sand worm does try to come for them in their houses, they will be stopped by the steel. Before the mass fortification, not even homes were safe. The Alzcaan Sand Worm feeds off of two main things: sand and humans. If there are no nutritious, juicy, stringy humans around to eat, the sand worm will instead eat some bland, plain sand to satisfy it's hunger. It will then suck in a ton of air (with its lungs being ginormous) and start to fortify the underground, creating walls and ceilings of rock to prevent the sand above from falling. We know so much about the sand worm because multiple brave souls sometimes quietly sneak into the tunnels while the sand worm is sleeping, recording everything they see and hear for about 20 minutes. Once this is done, they quickly return above ground in fear of being eaten. The anatomy of an Alzcaan sand worm was discovered when scientists finally killed a few, and dissected their insides. It is very rare to see 2 or more Alzcaan sand worms in the same area at once because not all are synchronized. They have the internal clock the moment they are born. In turn, they will come out every 10 minutes on THEIR OWN internal clock. This makes the alarms only synchronized to one sand worm, otherwise known as the Alpha. The Alpha is a sand worm that is usually more carnivorous and bigger than all others in that area. So, they set the timer for that one. If the citizens ever see a normal Alzcaan Sand Worm and the alarm has not sounded for the Alpha yet, they will alert everyone they know and shout it out loud.* Alzcaan Sand Worms can live up to 300 years if no one interferes with their existence, and they get a healthy food supply. This makes them the BIGGEST DIABOLICAL MENACE IN ALL OF [idk]. The Northern Warriors of [idk] have become hunters of the Alzcaan Sand Worm. No, the monster's flesh does not taste good. Its scales cannot be used for anything. Neither can its spikes, or internal organs. The Northern Warriors hunt these monstrosities for the soul reason of trying to make them extinct.
