Chapter Three Chillpaw Chillpaw couldn't wait to become a warrior! He couldn’t wait for the epic battles, patrols, and warrior duties! His mother, Slatepelt was a BrookClan cat, but nobody except Flarepaw, his father, and him knew. His father was all CedarClan, Branchhopper was loyal and brave, yet he had a sillier, more dad-like side that almost always shone through. He loved his mom, but grew up barely knowing her. As he made his way up the game trail to the camp, he felt the patter of rain on his fur. Blech he thought. Although he was half BrookClan, he hated water just as much as fire hated water. He arrived in camp, thoughts racing. This wasn’t like him. His mind swirled with long-kept secrets, guilt, excitement, overwhelm, and several feelings he couldn’t name. He must have looked troubled, because Flarepaw (who he had forgotten he was walking right next to) nudged him “Hey, uh are you alright? AH! Sorry! Didn’t mean to startle you. But you look a million pawsteps away.” Flarepaw inquired under the darkening skies. “Fine, fine. Just got-” “Lost in your thoughts?” Flarepaw interrupted. “Yeah.”He said, giving Flare a big reassuring smile. “We should probably go faster! The sky is getting ominous.” Kestralflame, a grumpy but kind she-cat who happened to be Chillpaw’s mentor.”Yeaaaaaah prolly” Chillpaw and Flarepaw decided, before making a run for it. The rain probably just had him on edge, there was nothing to worry about. They slashed and fought and exhausted each other until the assignment was over.
