⚡️ Zap! You've been turned into DNA Polymerase! You're in charge of adding missing nucleotides to DNA to help a cell prepare for division. Background information (Recommended to read before playing): Cells make up all living things. In fact, you are made up of trillions of microscopic cells. You started out as one cell, divided into two, then four, then eight and so on. Before cells divide, they must copy their DNA so that each new cell gets the same complete genetic instructions. DNA is shaped like a double-helix and is made up of four bases: A; Adenine, T; Thymine, C; Cytosine, and G; Guanine. These bases follow a strict pairing rule: A always pairs with T and C always pairs with G. (However during RNA transcription, A pairs with U instead of T.) When the cell is replicating its DNA, it spreads the two strands apart and each strand is rebuilt using the base-pair rules. In this game, you're in charge of rebuilding the missing pieces of DNA to help the cell successfully divide! ☛ How to Play ☚ —————————— ➼ Select a difficulty and press play ➼ Drag the pieces at the bottom of the screen into missing DNA spots ⤷ Match the base pairs! ㅤ⤷ Red pairs with Blue ㅤ⤷ Green pairs with purple ㅤ⤷ A pairs with T ㅤ⤷ G pairs with C ⤷ Hint: Use ALL the information given - colors, shapes, and letters. ➼ Fill in missing pieces before they leave the screen! ➼ Mistakes are permanent - each time a missing piece is left un-added or you pair the wrong bases, you lose a point. ⤷ When genes get copied incorrectly, mutations can occur, leading to issues in the body. Keep the mutation counter low to win! ➼ Look out for special events and challenges - they'll mess with your habits! ⤷ If a nucleotide is Locked, you must pair 3 other bases before it is available to fill in. ➼ Beat the game by getting minimal mutations! ⤷ In real life, cells trigger apoptosis (a programmed death) if they are too mutated! ═════════════════════════════ ✏ Created for the Puzzling Puzzlers Scratch Design Studio ✏ I created a project on DNA replication and cell division because I recently learned about it in my biology class ✏ Before making this project, I wrote a "script" for how I wanted to the game to turn out - you can find that in the stage in the editor ✏ Really random, but if you click on the "Base Pair" text on the home screen it changes colors and makes a satisfying noise :) Questions, confusions, remarks?
