songs: i pray - brb. ; currents convulsive - pierce the veil at the beginning of january, i decided to pick my “sketchbook” (its just a gridded notebook meant for math) back up bc i like desperately need some sketchbook entries for my portfolio but also for practice and for fun! every piece is drawn purely with pen/marker in order for me to build confidence in mark-making and embrace/integrate any errors i might make. each work is also based off a song :) all songs these are based off of are in this playlist! depending on when you see it, it may have more songs than just the ones listed below https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4uhapkF5nqx8oFc8fbJssS?si=F3dP9PyjR2ScUiJKTb-goQπ=auAbaHL1TIy_H 1.) jan 9, 2026 - locked out of heaven very first drawing! it’s messy, but it was kinda where i was still figuring out what exactly i wanted to do with my sketchbook. still like this one a lot :D 2.) jan 9, 2026 - st. chroma once again some experimenting with what to do—this one sparked from my whole resolve that i will succeed regardless. also gave me the idea to use colors according to the color i perceive a song to be (idt i have chromesthesia tho) 3-4.) jan 9, 2026 - strangers in the night / braindead two smaller pieces, still experimenting HAHAHHA not too much to say about these but i wanted to see how well i could draw faces if i only had a pen. i was surprised with how well they turned out! 5.) jan 10, 2026 - finesse this was the work that pretty much established the premise of all the following works! i remember being initially hesitant to draw the figure without being able to erase, but i was pleasantly surprised with how it came out! i’m honestly really not the strongest when it comes to gesture drawings so i was really happy with this 6.) jan 10, 2026 - disasterology mostly just wanted to do a pierce the veil song, but i also wanted the chance to draw more objects that would fit in a certain theme 7.) jan 11, 2026 - touch the sky since all the previous pieces were like crowded and compositions were super filled, i wanted to do something more restraining or empty, and let the negative space do the talking instead 8.) jan 15, 2026 - homesick was requested to do a w2e song :) the lyric “erase me from here and set me free” gave me the idea to make it more cramped. yet another piece to practice restraint 9.) jan 14, 2026 - my way took a bit of a break from graphic design elements to draw something that would also showcase that i know my fundamentals 10.) jan 14, 2026 - creep first time using two diff colors in a piece, not the biggest fan of this one because it’s so empty and i could’ve done better with the typography. not every work has to be great though so it’s ok! 11.) jan 15, 2026 - hold on till may i wasn’t liking it at first when i was only drawing the figure but lowkey the text saved it LOL i asked my friend to pick out a pen for me to use to draw this 12.) jan 14, 2026 - that’s what i like this one was also one i wasn’t liking at the beginning mainly bc i was fumbling so hard with the anatomy but i think the thick outline of the figure saved it and then i continued as usual HAHAAHA this one was ambitious due to the dynamic pose which i was scared of but i think it turned out amazing in the end 12.) jan 15, 2026 - is it true asked another friend to choose the pen! really happy with the linework and clothing folds here. this one looks so clean i was like wow 13.) jan 24, 2026 - i pray after a short break bc of schoolwork i was finally able to start up another page! not the most pleased about the typography or composition but i like the figure lol 14.) jan 24, 2026 - bulletproof love wanted to try out something like COMPLETELY different with the text from what i was doing before and make it more about the text than the figure. not super sure myself if i succeeded but i think it’s alright 15.) jan 26, 2026 - juice did this one purely without thinking about composition at all and just drew whatever i wanted :) 16.) jan 29, 2026 - hopelessly devoted to you my friend asked me to draw her something bc she saw the other pieces in my sketchbook! she gave me like complete freedom so i went with a song that i think fits the vibe i get from her 17.) jan 29, 2026 - love me drawn after watching one too many love me edits on reels lol but really i think this is my best one so far! not too crowded but still has that emotional beat i was trying to go for; i think the red text does the heavy lifting for that part 18.) jan 30, 2026 - currents convulsive done on my bday while hanging out with my friends after school! i wrote “than live without you” instead of “than live without me” on accident but nonetheless i absolutely love this one. i think drawing a silhouette instead of everything with the folds was interesting but i feel that it kinda fits the theme i was going for here 19.) jan 29, 2026 - daisies drew things purely off vibes of the song :)
