This isn't a complete "New Characters" project on my main, because I think if I did that, I'd want to include NEW characters as well as old redesigns. I have like, tens of characters that I'd want to show, but it'd take a while. Also, I'd want to spend a project like that not focusing on redesigns but more so just lore-blurbing about my characters in general. For now, I'm sticking this on my alt due to how simple it is. If you do want to see more of the characters I've been working on, visit my other websites! (Particularly Art Fight)
Here's a guide through all the changes and why: 1) Flame One of the first characters I redesigned, actually. AGAIN. His clothing and relative components remain almost the same, but you most likely noticed he's now SWOLL beyond all possibility. This is because one of the biggest differences I wanted to do with these new designs is to vary body shape and posture, to avoid all of my characters looking samey again. This also goes with making his hair and chin a bit sharper- it gives him more of an angst vibe, don't you think? 2) Cami (formerly Cammy) Our first complete overall. Took me a while to figure out what I wanted to do with her, but I think the final result fits her well. For one thing, I gave her more obvious Afrocentric features like curlier hair and a darker skin tone. I made her taller as well, with a more blatantly feminine figure, to give her a more "mature" look. This also ties into the fact I'm retconning her into being Khalil's OLDER sister, as opposed to twin sister. 3) Lilyana (formerly Lila) Even more of a rehaul than Cami. Once again, her hair and skin were redrawn to be more Afrocentric. I did retain her similar hairstyle and pudgy face. What's more noticeable is her ENTIRE palette and clothing changed. She now has a more distinct frog motif, which I think help better establish her personality and hyper fixation. Her original design implies she's interested in fairies, not frogs. ...but I kept the magic wand. Who could give up that?! 4) McBrotate Wasn't expecting him? Well, here he is. Honestly this isn't even much of a "new" design, it's just more of a modernization of how I would draw him, given the last time I drew him was like 2 years ago. And I think it was all for the best. Distinct color scheme, more sleazy look, better clothing, thick black outlines, and-...most beautifully, a soul patch. 5) Khalil's parents (Rodriguez and Priscella) They actually look pretty similar, but it's more stylized and proportioned with my modern art style now. For one thing, they have much better color palettes and darker skin tones. Their clothing also feels more fitting for them, as Priscella's original design was a mismatch of colors, and Rodriguez looked WAY too similar to his son. 6) Nate Creedy (Julia's younger brother) Once again, the main fixes with his design involved the color palette and a more stylized look. I gave his hair a more distinct comb [with a sharp corner at the bottom, like his sister], changed his lower clothes to hint at his "feminine" nature, and most noticeably- dulled his colors from way too vibrant to a more appropriate mediocre. This helps show his sheltered and skittish behavior. 7) Mr. Scalene Like Flame, not even much changed color palette wise or clothing wise, I just focused on diversifying my characters and making them more stylized. Which is why Scalene now has a more portly, short stature. His face is more wrinkly with a combover. Now he truly looks like a math teacher. Oh yeah, and the uh...sharp nose. Yeah, noses are something I'm experimenting with in some of my designs. Which brings us to our last entry for now... 8) Ms. Zellulitum (formerly Zellular) And lastly, the undignified science teacher of Spudville High. She received probably the most significant change, but it was a change I'm glad I made, because it encompasses the theme of exaggeration. First of all, once again, better color palette. It's more of a dull green, with themes of yellow. Gives a vibe of being old. Her hair is more distinct as well, made to always look like it's suffered an explosion. Her overall body has been made pudgier and more groteqsue looking, which shows her lack of hygiene. Clothing received a bit of an upgrade as well, giving she works in a lab. And then comes the face. Aside from the revolting warts that plague it, and her beady eyes, she has this gonky...thing we call a "nose". Perfect. ...and that's all. What do you think? - ninesevenpotatoes, 2025
