Chapter Four It was getting harder to see as the sky grew darker and the daytime was turning into nighttime. I ran quickly through the forest, dodging the tree one by one. My left hand not leaving my katana handle as I ran. Suddenly it had seemed that the ground had disappeared about 100 feet in front of me, I then slid to a stop, my shoes scraping against the grass as I came to a halt. The ground had not just randomly disappeared, but what I had come upon was a big ravine. I tried to look left and right to see how far it went on for. I couldn't see well in the low visibility of the night, I knew it had to go on for possibly miles long. I saw a small pebble to my right and I bend down and grabbed it in my hand. i outstretched my hand over the ravine and I dropped the pebble into the pitch black darkness, I stood there waiting to hear it hit the bottom. I stood there waiting, ten seconds went by but i heard nothing, and then twenty seconds, and then thirty, still no sounds. I began to grow uneasy, "shouldn't the pebble already hit the ground" I said to myself. The time then went to forty seconds and then fifty seconds, I grew even more uneasy, "why had I not heard it hit the ground yet" I thought, my mind was going scenario after scenario "was there water at the bottom, no that wouldn't make sense, wouldn't i have heard a splash then!?" I kept on thinking over and over again. The time then turned into minutes and I then realized that I wouldn't ever hear that pebble hit the ground. I then slowly began to back away the big ravine, "one thing is for sure, and that is I do not want to end up falling down there" I said to myself. Suddenly a big gust of wind had begun sweeping through the area and unfortunately brought rain with it. The wind was blowing hard, at least thirty to forty miles per hour. I tried to take a step but the wind almost knocked me over, "I need to be careful" I said to myself. I took another step, at the same time that another big gust of wind swept through the area. Unlike the previous gust of wind, this one was more powerful and made me fall down awfully close to the ravine. I was about to get up but right before I did, out of the corner of my eye I saw the tip of a sword slashing towards me. I slammed my head against the ground to avoid it, the blade pass directly over me. I then rolled away and jumped up, I withdrew my katana. I squinted my eyes trying to see who had tried to slash me with their katana, but it was to dark to see them. I had to then suddenly dodge left as the tip of a sword swung at me again, though through the single millisecond of the sword swinging sword that it was the same as the one that swung at me a few seconds earlier. I kept a firm grip on my katana, I was confused who and why anyone would try to attack me like this. My confused thoughts were then answered when I heard a deep voice come from the darkness where the supposed figure was, "you are infiltrating our territory, leave now outsider and you shall be spared". "outsider? Infiltrating?" I thought, I was so confused but I didn't want to stick around to find out because right as the voice said these words another swing was launched at me. I managed to dodge again and I then turned immediately and ran the opposite direction of where the voice hsd come from. While I was running, I couldn't help but think about what that voice had said, what did it mean by "it was our territory" could there be multiple people and what did it mean territory? The only territory I knew about was the territory of the city. Unfortunately I was so distracted in my head thinking about what had been said that I didn't notice the branch hanging down from a tree in front of me. I ran into it and fell down, my head was throbbing in pain and I realized that I was going unconscious. But right before I did I saw the outline of the same figure I saw earlier stand over people "throw him into the ravine" I heard him say, I wanted to protest or say something at least but right before I could, the pain overpowered me and I went unconscious. I woke up a few minutes later, my eyes were still closed but I felt that I still had my katana. I then heard that same voice say "throw him in" right as I opened my eyes, I then felt no ground below me and I looked up as I saw three figures walk away from the edge of the cliff that made part of the ravine. I was unable to do anything as I fell deeper into the ravine in complete darkness.
